This is the first Solid State Logic hardware I've owned. Love their plug-ins. This was an upgrade to my excellent Scarlett 2i2 3rd gen. This thing sounds excellent. Headphone amp is good enough for my Beyerdynamic 250 impedance cans. The 360° software control mixer is phenomenal, plus I got SSL vocal chain and drum buss plug-ins too. Connectivity allows for you to grow your setup and the preamps sound pristine. Plenty of gain, means lots of headroom, plus 32-bit float recording is the icing on the cake.     • A solid interface for music
The SSL 12 works well as an interface but is definitely more focused on the music side of sound. I chose it over the Focusrite 18i20 and PreSonus Studio 1824c. I love the portability and the built in talk mic but wish there were more outputs so I could set a up a 5.1 system. That is the only thing in my mind that is missing for me to recommend this as a post interface. ... show more

I am very pleased with this interface — Sound quality is fantastic, it has a great UI (SSL 360), the preamps sound great, the 4k buttons are very fitting for MY voice at least. I really only have good things to say about it… the only thing negative I might say is that some of the knobs FEEL a bit cheap.. I can’t expect TOO much though at this price point. The sound and number of inputs/outputs is what I was worried about more than the build materials…. I LOVE that it has two headphones outputs with separate volume knobs. ALSO I can set which type of headphone impedance I want for each port. So I can have High impedance setting for my Sennheiser’s jack and and high sensitivity setting for my IEMs. Definitely feels like it’s pulling way above its weight at this price point. ... show more

Had Focusrite 2i2, Steinberg UR Rt2, UAD Bolt 276 yet this SSL had the Magic. 32 bit of PRO Quality Sund.

    • Have hum noise and it's so easy to get clipping sounds.
- Hum noise from my speakers starting at 3 o'clock position on the gain knobs. My other interface that is $30 less does not have this. - Very easy to clip; it clips a lot. It scares the heck out of me when I hear the clipping sounds from my speakers. My other interface that is $30 less does not do this even if I maxed it; the sound just get distorted, but does not clip. - For its price point, it should have a power supply / power input option in addition to bus powered. Others have it. - No level meter for output. - This is the most expensive from the other units I checked out with similar features. - Hard to plug in XLR connector. I have to wiggle while pushing it in because there is hard blocking that needs to get passed. - Compared to my other audio interface, headphone volume on this about 15% lower. Tested on both mic and music inputs. - Plastic sides. Others that I've seen so far and at this price point are either all metal or have wood sides. - The two stars if for the nice build looks. Looks like a pro unit like in pro studios. Build quality is nice too. ... show more
