I started taking vocal lessons recently and bought a kind of cheapo mic from a store in town. It was working okay until a software update completely screwed up my mic settings. The mic had a voice effects option, but I never used the option, hadn't wanted it, and only bought the mic because it was decently priced and pretty much the only one my store had in stock. I didn't think it would matter. Fast forward two months and following a software update, I started my online lesson and found my instructor was completely thrown because I sounded "weird" to him. After several attempts to figure out what was wrong (I wasn't hearing it on my end), I finally had to do my lesson via cell phone and only got 15 minutes' worth of instruction. When I went back and watched the Skype video recordings of our attempts to fix whatever he was hearing, I was absolutely mortified to hear that the update had very obviously applied a random voice effect and made me sound like a cartoon. I also couldn't get the effect turned OFF. That was the event that led me to buy a much better mic and audio interface. After doing a bit of research, I settled on the Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd generation interface. I can only speak to how well this works on Skype for vocal lessons, but would imagine it's just as great with instruments and recording. As this was my first audio interface, I did have to ask the company a few questions. But their customer service is superb and I was able to easily set this up and use it pretty quickly. It's been working great and--best of all--I no longer have to worry about audio issues or having my voice unexpectedly start sounding like Yogi Bear to my instructor. Keep it simple stupid! That's what this does. It's a simple plug & play. Comes with phantom power should your mic need it. Cannot comment on whether it's enough, but can't see why it wouldn't be. Simple knobs for volume control & for gain control. Sound quality is great! Interface itself seems very well constructed. I'm not worried about it getting damaged in any way at all. I use this simply to talk to friends on discord & chat in games. If that's all you're trying to do, you can't really go wrong with this interface. ... show more

I use this setup for dictation (running into Dragon Naturally Speaking) and my Shure microphone. It was very easy to setup, and the signal is very good (and adjustable, too). I used this to replace a faulty Yeti microphone.

My first and so far, my only pre-amp don't need to buy another one atm. The thing runs solid my only gripe about the pre-amp when i restart my pc I can hear like the popping noise it makes to reset if I have my headphones turned on. That would be my only issue the rest of it is a solid simple pre-amp. Comes with a usb power chord no need for a wall adapter. Doesn't seem to use alot of power from what i can tell. Firstly, the Scarlett Solo's design is aesthetically pleasing, compact, and feels robust. It has a sturdy metal casing, making it tough enough to endure the rigors of travel and everyday use. The vibrant red color is a nice touch as well, adding an element of style to my studio. The setup was effortless, thanks to the provided instructions. All it took was plugging it into my laptop via USB and installing the necessary drivers, which are easily available on the Focusrite website. It integrates seamlessly with popular DAWs, and I had it up and running with my StudioOne software in no time. Sound quality, undoubtedly one of the most critical aspects of any audio interface, is where the Scarlett Solo shines. The 3rd Gen has improved preamps which make a noticeable difference, delivering crisp and clean sound whether you're recording vocals, instruments, or podcasts. The 24-bit/192kHz converters offer professional sound quality that won't disappoint, especially at this price point. The front panel's simplicity is one of my favorite aspects of this device, with one XLR and one 1/4" input, 48V phantom power switch, direct monitor switch, and volume knobs for both headphones and speakers. The 'halo' indicators around the knobs are especially helpful as they change color to indicate if your input levels are too high, preventing potential clipping. However, I do have a couple of minor grievances. While the simplicity of the interface is great for beginners, more experienced users may miss having more input options. I needed an interface for my vocal recordings, and this was one of the best purchases I have made. It’s great quality, it does exactly what an interface is supposed to do, and it’s not super expensive. Once you install it to your computer, using the wire given, it will offer you a step-by-step guide to download & show you how to use it properly for the best results. Which is very helpful for beginners. It’s a well trusted brand that many creators use for recording all forms of music.
