Not meant for heavy duty, high-heat, professional use, but great for simple light-duty home projects like repairing electronic circuit boards. Some customers complained of reliability issues, so time will tell. Pros: - Kit provides plenty of tools, like diagonal cutter was very good quality. Two tweezers were excellent home quality. Did not use solder-sucker but very useful to have on-hand. Did not need other small tools, but good to have if need. - Iron provides more than adequate heat for electronics; not sure about larger high-heat soldering. Temperature control good to prevent over heating. Supplied solder good. - Multiple tips, especially sharp tip for fine circuit board work. - Soldering stand spring-part a little too large, but still very useful; to avoid accidental finger burning.. Sponge good for cleaning tip. My father taught me to solder when I was 3. I have plenty of top-of-the-line Weller products, etc. But it's summer, and I find myself on vacation, and in real need of soldering just a couple of wires to fix something important. Everything you need is here, and not overly expensive. 60W may be just a little on the low side -- especially considering that the govt is forcing us to use inferior lead-free solder -- but it works great in a pinch. Solder-tinning the soldering iron tips is a problem -- as it always is with low-end soldering irons. And especially now that the govt is forcing us to use inferior higher temperature lead-free solder. Why they can't plate the same finish on the cheap tips as the good ones, I'll never know. But if you are prepared for that -- and are maybe ready to polish the tip with some kind of brush before heating and tinning it the first use -- this kit can do anything you need in a pinch. I thought their including a desoldering tool was overkill... but it turns out I needed it, even though I thought I wouldn't. This kit even comes with a tiny piece of proto-board, and some copper braid. If, e.g., you were, say, in a military situation and trapped somewhere and needed to add in a couple of ICs in a secret circuit, this kit has absolutely everything you need. It's kind of like a sewing kit for the road for electronics people. I highly recommend it for quick fixes in the field anywhere Amazon delivers. ... show more

I bough this for a small electrical project I was working on. I was rewiring the electronics on a rc car which I accidently fried. I didn't have a soldering set and bought this set for this purpose and for any other projects that may come up. As I foresaw myself using this infrequently, I did not want to spend a lot of money on a high end iron. Others have reviewed this very well so I wont repeat the information. This set came with a lot of extras as you can see in the pic. I actually have taken out some pieces and have been using them aside from when I am using the iron. The wire cutters are nice to use instead of using scissors when they are needed. Same with the tweezer. I did buy lead free solder as I believe this comes with leaded. It appears as if lead solder is preferred but I wanted something "safer" just in case I was using this with my kids in the future. The iron worked well for me and got plenty hot for my purposes - I just left it on the highest heat setting. I did buy a separate stand to help free up my hands to use this iron and the solder. If you need a set for occasionally use this will fit the bill and comes with extras that you may find yourself using more than the iron. Would recommend. ... show more

I purchased this to use on my model train layout as I a am adding digital decoders to my locomotives. The soldering iron is easy to setup and the stand keeps the hot tip far enough off the surface to avoid burn marks. The multiple soldering heads are a blessing, as they allow you to choose how wide a solder you need. The accompanying tools are all useful and made the installation a breeze.
