    • Not going to save a lot of money, but…

So I bought the Soda Stream system to save money. The high cost of soda is outrageous. 2L bottle is going for $3 nowadays. It used to be $.79. As a soda lover, I was seriously perturbed. I thought this system might make the price more reasonable. And it has, to an extent. I’m three months into this experiment and am not thrilled with the costs. The upfront costs are substantial. The Soda Stream itself, two CO2 bottles, extra soda bottles were expensive. The generic soda syrup is very good, but not a lot of savings there. The CO2 is not as advertised. 60L from a canister is possible, but if you want an experience similar to the commercial products, it’s really more like mid-40L IRL. So I save a bit each month, but it’s a long payback period for the initial costs. However the soda is tasty and the best part is the convenience. No more toting around heavy soda bottles and cans, tying to get rid of recycles. No recycle charges and generally less waste. Period. Make it when you’re about to use. Reuse the bottles over and over. Syrup comes straight to the door. It’s all very convenient. So there’s a pleasant surprise to the system I’ve been most pleased with. Okay, not necessarily the most economical (there are all kinds of commercial product Gerry rig ideas to lower the cost), but it is really convenient and satisfying that one is not being wasteful. ... show more

I love that this does not need to be plugged in to be used. Making carbonated water is so easy and it tastes great. Some of the flavors may taste a bit more like the off-brand drinks - cola tastes more like a grocery store cola than Coke or Pepsi. We've tried several different drink flavors and so far all have been good - the bubly ones of course taste exactly like bubly drinks you would purchase in the store. I've only had one mis-hap when making one of the soft drink flavors - when I added the syrup to the carbonated water, it fizzed up and spilled all over the counter top, so add a little at a time. ... show more

Super easy to use. One CO2 container, which is the 60 liters, saves me the equivalent of $120 in bottled seltzer water a month minimum. And when you get the little additives I highly recommend the fruit ones, it becomes extremely refreshing and wonderful! The absolute amazing part is that you can leave it pure or put in the additive and put it in say a mason jar with a lid on it that has a seal, and it will stay fizzy for more than 24 hours. If you have it in the fridge I've had a bottle, a 1 l bottle stay fizzy for 2 weeks because I forgot it was in there. The original purchase amount for the unit pays for itself in the first month of the canisters I suggest finding the refill program with SodaStream direct, it's cheaper faster and easier to use. This is a great system overall. It’s easy to use and saves a lot of money if you do sparkling water and a good amount of money if you do soda. The only downside to this thing is the overly expensive co2 cylinder replacement.....fortunately you can buy a refill adapter here on amazon for about 35-40 bucks and refill them yourself if you have a co2 tank which i will be buying. Throw the included flavor bottles right in the trash when you take them out of the box . They taste absolutely awful.....like youre drinking the foulest tasting medicine...YUCK!!!! ... show more
