Awesome winch. I searched around when choosing this winch because I didn't like the design of many others. One thing to note, this winch uses a solenoid which mounts within a couple feet of the winch motor. This is a superior design than some, which send power through the switch and to the winch. The solenoid is essentially a big relay, meaning more current reaches the motor and the switch only requires a small amount of energy to engage the solenoid. The winch is smooth, the clutch action is smooth, and the kit comes with a lot of accessories. It includes a winch mounting plate, a handle bar switch, and a corded hand held remote. It feels very well made. I have used smittybuilt winches on trucks in the past and have never been disappointed. Highly recommend this winch to anyone with an ATV! ... show more

    • Hardware great...Instructions vague at best
Winch and included hardware is top notch. Once installation completed works exceptionally well...beyond expectations. Understand, I am a seasoned mechanic with decades of experience with installing new and used automotive accessories. This was not an easy install. The included instructions covered several models and not clear the differences between them. No extension wire to go from switch plug to relay. Non standard quick connects used so the supplied connectors were removed and replaced with American standard connectors then I could make and attach necessary extension wires to the relay. When finished color coded wiring the winch worked in the opposite direction of the switch markings. Made necessary wiring changes and now works great. Are use it for opening two sets of doors (1/8 steel) on a large chicken coop doors weight 80 pounds in total I pulled the cable off and respooled it starting in the middle of the cable so that way I had to taglines with all the extra wiring it comes with made it much easier and cheaper than using a linear actuator ... show more

I Installed this winch on a 2014 Yamaha Girzzly. It was professionally installed, the contactor box was installed under the seat where it was ventilated and 100 percent waterproof. I used the winch once to pull out of a ditch, then unrolled it and rolled it back in twice in different occasions just to make sure the cable was stored properly, the third time i tried using it, the winch would randomly stop working and now only winches in, but not out. Took it to a local winch center and they told me contractor box had failed. The installation was double checked and everything was perfect, grounds, terminals, etc. The cables and controls (the remote and the handlebar mounted one) are very poor quality, the screws rusted in the first rain, and the quality of the cables is very poor. The worst part of it is that I can't even find a smittybilt website to order another contractor box. I guess I should just really throw it away and go with Warn, thing I should have done at the beginning. ... show more

very good product at a good price. directions were kind of vague in some areas, had to call the company who were very helpful. would recommend as a good middle of the road winch for the money.

    • Caught my atv on fire
I bought this winch in 2017. This year there was a short in the electrical system and it caught my atv on fire. Luckly it was only the battery compartment so they were able to determine it was the winch. While it worked it was great but just know when it fails it fails big!
