  • Simple, elegant and affordable IOT
My house is a fairly open floor plan, which means I have multiple switches controlling the same lights in most areas. One issue I am trying to avoid is having to walk around the entire floor every night to turn off all the lights that have been left on. (Also I would like to be able to set up routines and control my house even when I am away.) I have been looking for a while to find a solution to controlling my lights via IOT without breaking the bank. The TreatIife smart switch was the perfect solution. Setup has been easy, I have set up 4 switches so far (2 at a time when I have 45 minutes to spare). The directions for the 3-Way switches contain diagrams, so it was easy enough to follow the layout and remap the wires. The only things to be aware of are: 1 - You must use the neutral wire. The neutral wires are not attached to common switches, they were in a bundle of white wires in the back of the switch box. Until this is connected the switch will not work. 2 - Attaching the neutral and ground wires are easy. But different parts of my house were wired at different times, so existing wiring was not consistent between all boxes. Fret not however, simply rotating the 3 other wires between connections will get you set up correctly in no time. The single pole switches are even easier to install. The directions did not include the friendly diagrams found in the 3-Way directions, but that did not present a problem especially after wiring the 3-way switch first. What took me the most time in setup is going back and forth to the fuse box. If you have a friend (or are next to your box) you may be able to do this in 5 minutes per switch. Below are images of the difference in wiring between the single pole (the only switch controlling one set of lights) and the three way versions of this switch (one of several switches controlling a set of lights). Basically there are traveler wires to account for in the 3-way version. Screws, wire caps, covers and wire labels all are included, you will just want to have screwdrivers, wire pliers, cutters/strippers, electrical tape and a multimeter. (not all require but suggested). The switches come with single snap on covers. My house has only double, triple and quadruple gang boxes, which means that those covers would not work. I was able to go to the local hardware store and for less than $2 / box I was able to attach in proper covers. Snap on covers were about 4x the price if you want to avoid the screw heads showing. The covers are the standard size and I had no problems there. The buttons have nice features. They have a button light when off so you can find them in the dark. Once you download the app, they quickly sync. It did take me a bit of time to navigate the Alexa app to integrate them in (but that is an Amazon account linking issue). Once they were set up, it they have worked consistently (which is not something I can say for all smart switches) Overall I am very happy with these switches. If I had to make a complaint it may be how all smart switches feel when they click on or off (as compared to the sturdy feel of a traditional switch). This is being very picky, and as I am trying to avoid running around the house to manually hit switches, I am very happy to now say “Alexa, turn off all lights” and then go to bed. Overall I recommend these switches as I plan to replace not only my traditional switches, but also other smart switches I have previously installed with these throughout the entire house. ... show more

  • Awesome switch
I love these switches and here is why? 1) Installation is easy (first time it may take longer however next one should be faster). 2) They look cool. 3) They are relatively cheap as compared to other brands. 4) Lastly and most important reason - In a “2 switch and 1 light scenario”, you just have to replace one dumb switch with Treatlife (unlike some of other brands where you have to replace both dumb switch). I even used in a 4 switch and 1 light scenario and it worked fine. Just make sure you are replacing it with the correct dumb 3-way switch. I tested all possible combinations and it worked fine. ... show more

  • Easy as Pie to Install and Use
The media could not be loaded. First off, this package of switches represents the 20th smart switch I have installed into my house. Using the Smart Life app on my phone, getting one of these installed only took 15 minutes. Assuming multiple on the same breaker, doing them all at once, consider about another 10 minutes for each switch. WiFi Note - These only 'work' on a 2.4Ghz WiFi. What that means is that if you try to configure using your phone which sees the WiFi of 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz and only shows a single name, you will encounter problems if you have 'intra-station' traffic disabled. If you have 'intra-station' traffic enabled (typical default in the USA) and your WiFi use the same name, you shouldn't have any issues. Although a proper WiFi stack on a device *should* work even when both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz use the same name, enough devices don't work right that I no longer recommend that configuration unless you have tested your devices and it is helping you achieve higher speeds. Back to the switches - These switches are great quality, I haven't had any issues with them. If your house is older than about 1975 in the USA and hasn't been rewired, these aren't the right product for you because a neutral wire is required. Aside from that, turn off the breaker, put the common wire at the top of your existing switch to the common/load terminal of this switch, and connect each of the two travelers (next to each other vertically and on opposite sides of your existing switch). It doesn't matter which traveler is connected to which side, because that is how 3-way switches work. ... show more
