For the price , the stachometer is very useful and works well on small engines such as lawn mowers and chainsaws. I like the fact that it has an automatic shut off when not in use. The? Copper clip is very useful to connect it directly to the spark Plug wire to give an accurate reading. And the quality of manufacturer seems pretty good so far. Came with no instructions at all. If someone with no experience in this field received this they probably would return it. For the price I can live with it because it works fine. I bought it for checking rpms on small engines like lawn mower.

    • HAS TO BE IN USE TO CHANGE RPM SETTINGS
Have not had a chance to use yet but have used this type of meter before. This is a nice, small display unit. It is inductive pickup meaning you can hold the box itself near a plug wire and receive a signal or loop the included alligator clip wire lead through the 2 holes on the side of the meter, as is photos shown and use it that way also to get the readings. the wire lead way would be the best way to use if you plan on mounting the meter somewhere on the dash for display on command at all times. Has service life meter, hour meter and RPM meter built into one unit. I plan on using this just for diagnostics and setting the minimum / maximum RPM'S on small engines. The instructions are not clear at all on how the different engine cycle modes/types are set. I have seen some posts where folks try to cycle through the different RPM engine type settings strait out of the box. Factory preset is #2 setting for 4 stroke engines. Out of the box the only setting you will see is, #1. You have to hook this item up to a running motor then it will allow you to cycle through the different engine type, 1-3 settings. Otherwise the only settings this item knows for engine types is setting #1, 2 stroke or just do a factory reset how the instructions state and it will revert back to # 2, 4 stroke mode. Either way these settings will get you going to start off. The 3rd setting I believe is for a, dual cylinder/coil setup, the instructions are not clear on this but the description states it is capable. Time will tell how this model works as it has not been used yet but I do not for see any issues. If so I will future review. ... show more

I was unable to change to the different modes following the enclosed instructions. I wanted to change from 01 mode (4 cycle engine) to 02 (2 cycle engine), but I was unable to do so. I returned the first unit and requested a replacement. I received the second unit and checked it out of the box. I encountered the same problem as before. I couldn't change from mode 01 to mode 02. I reread the instructions looking for trouble-shooting tips, but none were included. I returned the unit for a refund. ... show more

I've only used it a couple of times, but it seems to be good quality. I'm sure there are more accurate meters out there, but for the person who only needs to set a governor or check an rpm once in a while, this is perfect. Would definitely buy again.
