  • Excellent for my use !
This drill press surprised me that it did not have problems that others had. It came very well packed in form fitting foam. The directions were in plain English. Yes it was covered in oil. That is the way it should be to prevent rust. The oil cleaned up easily. I have received other devices that were covered in thick grease. Yes the drill would stall when speed control was just turned on. UNTILL I turned the press upside down and using 3-in-one oil I oiled the bearing. Now NO stalling !!! The base is completely flat except very small areas that had a portion of paint. Sanded off easily. Drilling a hole in very hard plastic resulted in a straight clean hole. There was resistance to lowering the drill until I turned the big spring until it cleared the shaft. I can feel the cogs in the gears when lowering the drill. Do not know if I can add a stiff grease to the gears. It would be great if it came with a vice that fit the base better than the vice I purchased. ... show more

  • Love it! Sturdy as can be, but difficult to adjust height. Still, would buy again.
I've been using this drill press for many months now. I can't express how much I love it! It's such a nice small size, and it's really sturdy metal construction. The only limit I've discovered, is that the drill can only be lowered an inch. But, my workaround for that, is to lower the bit as much as possible (buying a long bit would be best), then, after you start drilling, lift your object up to drill a thicker piece. So, it's not the answer to all your drilling needs in a drill press, as it's limited on how thick your piece can be, but you can do more with it than you might think. My only actual complaint is that it's hard to adjust the height. The top portion is really heavy, and it's difficult to turn the crank/handle to loosen it, so you can slide it up and down. You might want to just adjust it 1/4 inch up or down, but that's really hard to do. Once you loosen the machine on the post, it's up to you to hold onto it and try to just lift it or lower it where you want it, hold it in place, and try to crank the lever to tighten it in place. Not a smooth or easy thing to do. With practice, it's getting easier, but it would be really nice if there was a way to just crank it up or down with a wheel or something, rather than just the all or nothing loosening and then wishing you had three hands to hold onto it, and adjust it carefully, then hold it in place while also trying to turn the lever to tighten it in place. That's kind of crazy and awkward. But, overall, I'm thrilled with it and expect it will live longer than I will. ... show more

  • Heavy duty construction
Well built, very sturdy. Drill motor and body is metal, not flexing plastic like some. Vertical post is thick walled and base is cast. Very sturdy. Chuck is a little bigger than 1/4". Not a lot of torque. Maybe I can adjust the belt to be a little tighter. Seems precise enough for my small hobby projects. ... show more

  • Great for PC boards
"Safety warning: In stallwith adjust this machine current public affairs to cut off the power supply necessarily" As you can see, the manual is complete gibberish and of no use whatsoever. Howeaver, it's a good tool. I'm using it to drill PC boards, and it works great. The chuck is good and there's no perceptible runnout to snap tiny Tungston Carbide bits. I also ordered two of the last three drive belts. I left you one. I'll see if I can find a good domestic part number for replacements. It has no problem at all starting at low speed. I am running it on the lowest 5000rpm pulley steps, which gives plenty of torque and is more than fast enough for my needs. NOTE: this is a specialty tool for drilling very tiny, precise holes in things like jewelry and circuit boards. It is not a general purpose drill press. If you want to build a bird house etc, get the normal size $60 Harbor Freght press. ... show more

  • So so
Drive belt???? Forget it. Replace it with this "336 Silicone O-Ring, 70A Durometer, Red, 2-7/8" ID, 3-1/4" OD, 3/16" Width". This removes all the laboring by the motor from the factory plastic belt which is too rigid.... The chuck is a press fit. Mine was crooked. I removed it and pressed back on helped a lot. Shaft has no runout, it's all in the cheap chuck.... Check the wiring at the back as mine needed moved around and insulated better so as not to get rubbed through, since the motor moves up and down when drilling. ... show more

  • Surprisingly Solid Accurate Machine
This product is marketed by a number of different firms. Buy this drill from THIS company. It comes with an extra drive belt. The brief instructions are in "good" English not Chinese student bad English. Came well packed in a second outer box. Cast iron base and smooth motor make for a solid stable tool. Up and down travel is a bit rough but should smooth out over time and does not affect drilling operation. Jacobs chuck assures good quality at the bit end. Finally, the speed control on THIS model from THIS marketer really works. Other reviewers for similar drill presses sold elsewhere complained that the low speed after clicking on was non-existent. On this machine you click on and it immediately runs slow and then can be accelerated to full speed (within that range - dictated by belt set-up). Overall and excellent product for the money. ... show more
