It’s a plastic bathmat!! So, yeah, when you take it out of the packaging, it smells kind of like a pool float when you you first buy it, that’s all! I sprayed some of my delicious Method Daily Shower Mist with eucalyptus (also available on Amazon :D ) on it and it was good! Also, I read a couple reviews about that it took a while for it to lay down flat in the tub.. turn your shower on ALL HOT and run it for 2-3 minutes over the mat to soften the creases from shipping.. it’ll be all good 👍🏻👍🏻 The mat is pretty, suction is great - oh, and it was a REALLY good price for the size of this sucker! **Also, if you prefer rounded edges or want it a bit shorter? I’m writing this review only to warn people that it may come with a very funky smell! It is a beautiful shower mat though. First I will tell you about how the mat looks and then I will get to the god awful smell LOL. Upon opening it, I realized it actually looks a lot darker in person than it did online. I do like the dark and light tones though. I got this one because my son is almost a year old and the one we currently have is too slippery for him to crawl around on. I imagined this to be slightly more cushiony than it is; it’s actually sort of hard and not the most comfortable on your bare rear end when used in a bath. It would feel much better when used in the shower while standing. However it is really good for my son because he has not slipped at all; in fact the “stones” are nice little grippers for him. Because the color is so dark it does tend to make the bathwater look darker as well, and even slightly dirty looking. We use colored bath tablets to make the water pretty, but it ends up making the Water look a little dull and dingy-looking. nevertheless I still really like it and I’m happy with the appearance and functionality. NOW- for the smell!! It came in a normal box from Amazon, but was wrapped in its own plastic in a roll. When I took the plastic off and unrolled it, I immediately noticed that it smelled a lot like marijuana. In fact it had such a strong odor, that other people in my house started asking why it smelled like weed in the kitchen LOL! There were some parts that smelled like plastic, but other areas had a very pungent weed smell. I ended up laying it in the shower and rinsing it was hot water, and then Lysol‘ing the crap out of it. It actually took three times of doing that before the smell went away! In between rinsing it and Lysol‘ing it, My entire bathroom stunk so bad. I mean, I know it’s legal here in Washington state but…!! It’s not exactly a smell I wanted my son to experience yet. Hopefully this was just an odd ball experience, but beware that this could happen to your mat as well! ... show more

I wouldn't usually return something as inconsequential as a bath mat.... but this is the worst bath mat I've ever encountered. As soon as I stood on it I felt pain. The sucker cups on this Pebble Bath Mat stab your feet as effectively as actual pebbles. (Imagine being barefooted and strolling over the plains of Mordor; constantly impaled by sharp little stones and errant spear heads whilst inhaling the poisonous fumes of Mount Doom) But lets set aside for a moment the intense discomfort and talk, instead, about it's composition. (See attached photo) Why, in the whole wide world of thermosetting polymers, would one choose to make their product with materials that could produce flipper babies? If a material causes cancer when it comes into contact with naked skin and it's sole function is to come into contact with naked skin then one has to wonder whether the manufacturer doesn't want to kill us. This isn't a bathmat. It's a toxic, foot-stabby torture device suitable only for podiatric torment or smiting the unborn children of your enemies. Will not buy again. ... show more

This is really cool looking and feels nice on the feet. I haven’t found another product like it. That said, it has a weird smell that no matter how many times I clean, is still there. It smells like some sort of a sour chemical. Also, the suction isn’t great and keeps slipping into the drain guard we have (see the pictures for reference), which makes the drain guard move up and everything just goes under it, which totally defeats the purpose of having a drain guard. That is partly on me for wanting the black mat and only being available in the big size at the time. Overall, I have mixed feelings about this product. It looks nice. It smells awful. And it feels TERRIBLE. The thickness of the pebbles with suction cups is Significantly thicker than the pebbles without suction cups, leading to a very bumpy and inconsistent surface, which feels an awful lot like you're trying to shower while standing on small river rocks. I added pictures to hopefully illustrate the thickness difference for those who think "oh, maybe they just have tender feet!" I don't. I walk around barefoot regularly, indoors and out. These mats are very beautiful. I've bought ones that are similar in the past. These do have a bit of smelly odor, but I'm sure this will lessen over time. The others I have bought in the past had an odor at 1st as well. But over all these are very nice and look great. I've always wanted a pebble stone shower pan, but since that is not an option right now this the next best thing. And it also stays put, and is safer in avoiding slips. And I'm older with arthritis so that is a huge selling point for me. It takes a little to get used to at 1st with the faux stones being raised a little. But that is a bit of a plus since it messages my arthritic feet & sore arches. ... show more
