  • Know what you are getting into
I bought the NAVPAL because on a couple of recent cross country trips I had no cell signal for an extended period of time, consequently no data being fed to my directions. This may be unfair but I am making my comparison against Google maps versus another GPS navigation device. The good news is that the NAVPAL will get you to your destination, the bad news is there may be confusing directions on occasion. I am writing this at the end of a 2500 mile round trip from MN to Virginia. In one case I was brought to an intersection on the highway and NAVPAL said go north and Google maps that go south. Since my intended destination was south I chose south. I didn't have time in that moment to see where NAVPAL was going to take me on the northern route but what I did notice was that after it recalculated my southern route the arrival time was shortened. That indicated to me that Google maps was correct. This morning (2/22/2022) driving from the west on I74 into Indianapolis NAVPAL was going to have me drive through the center of the city during rush hour. Google maps was routing me around the city on the north side. Again looking at the arrival time recalculations Google proved to be correct on all of those routes. As I was being routed around Indianapolis by Google, NAVPAL was giving me numerous bad turns that would have extended the length of my trip. Would they have gotten me to my destination? I'm sure they would have. But after one of its recalculations it dropped 25 minutes from the arrival time. So whatever route NAVPAL was going to take me on it was going to be a long extension to my trip. So far on this trip there have been roughly a dozen conflicts between NAVPAL and Google maps. I'm ignoring those in neighborhoods where NAVPAL might take me left around the block and Google might take me right around the block. Those have no impact. I'm not sure why this discrepancy. I am in West Virginia right now and I have a reasonable cell signal, the NAVPAL is showing that it's seeing 12 satellite positions and yet I have no map on the screen of my NAVPAL nor any semblance of direction or roads or anything else to show me where to navigate. Fortunately my Google devices are working just fine. It's was offline for about 12 minutes. Several times while driving two lane roads in West Virginia the audible would come on and tell me it was recalculating because I missed a turn even though the GPS was telling me my next turn was in 20 plus miles. It did not tell me that I should have taken a particular turn. The route that I was on was perfectly fine as it was. I do not know why it was telling me it had to reroute after missing a turn that would have been inappropriate. Returning home (2/27/2022) I passed through that same area where my navigation instructions were lost before. This time it was for about 5 minutes. Very strange. One real big annoyance: Anytime you deviate from the course (gas stops, rest stops, scenic overlooks, etc.) it will tell you that it’s “recalculating because you missed a turn”. It could just simply say it’s recalculating and skip the condescending nag. Bottom line. I liked the device despite its quirks. That said I feel it will always be necessary to have Google maps running right alongside the NAVPAL for verification and sometimes for better routes. ... show more

  • It's not perfect but...
It's not perfect but at this price, it's very good and definitely unbeatable! My unit came in a well done packaging with US map (and Mexico and Canada's map inside the US folder) pre-installed in the unit. I'm only a business visitor here in the US so I have requested for European maps since I live there. They have sent me a link to download Europe's map and I have made a mistake of using a 200gb microSD card. The unit can detect and use the maps inside the SD card but it's not powering ON when the SD card is inserted. I have contacted them and they told me to use a 16gb SD card instead, I did that and the power ON problem was solved. I'm not sure why it didn't work with the bigger capacity card but as far as I know, small and big capacity SD cards uses different file system. Unfortunately, this issue was not written in any manual they have provided. Stability wise, it is very stable. I have seen complaints in some reviews that it was loose or falling down but mine is not, the suction woks well and sometimes it's actually hard to remove it from the wind screen. I also did not find any issue leaving it under the sun (34 degC) for a long time. The US maps though could use some updates as I found some new inner roads not available in the maps. I have never tried to use the European maps but I will when I'm back home. Mine doesn't have bluetooth but that's not an issue to me because I don't think I will be using it anyway. I have also read in some reviews that US edition really does not have Bluetooth. I like that it is powering on/off automatically when it is connected to the car through the charger, that is a well written program because it became part of the car, just like a built in GPS system. But the function that I like most is the "Where am I" button. (Maybe other brands have also this kind of function). This function must become mandatory in a GPS system due to safety and life saving reasons. A brief explanation is that when you push this button, the system will locate where you are and will provide presets button in case you need help to find the nearest police station, hospital, and other life saving institutes. The pouch that is advertised to come with system was not delivered to me, they have promised that they will send one a week ago but I have not received it yet. I don't even know if they have really send one. The video tutorials and instruction manual are well maid to make the experience more satisfactory, you just need to spend some time reading and viewing the instructions for ease of use. The screen is very good, no problem viewing it in the glaring sun and the slim body is great. All in all, I'm happy with this purchase, I just hope that it will last for a long time. As I have said, it is unbeatable at this price and will not be surprise if this will beat the higher end ones. Update: Apr 28, Sweden I had the opportunity now to try the unit here in Europe, particularly here in Sweden and there's not so much to say, the thing just works and it works beautifully :) It's really a good buy no doubt about it. And they have refunded me for the pouch being out of stock. Thanks NAVPAL's! ... show more

  • Don't change your mind, and please don't change directions.
I love the screen, the size of this GPS.........but mine, I don't know about yours, has a tiny misbehaving person inside of it. If you are driving using it to find a location you want, don't take the " detour " or the next street over. Because it will scream " recalculating " but never recalculate. It gets mad, insist you turn around, go back home, then restart the route. What was " funny, but made me mad", I did this with a route I already knew. I inserted it into the GPS, took a street off of the GPS plotted route, " Bang ", the little person inside of the GPS got mad, kept screaming go back home, turn around, I didn't turn around. But wait, as I drove to where I knew my route should end, the little " Imp " inside of the GPS said " you have arrive at your destination! I am disappointed in this product. I had hoped, since it was hard finding good large screen GPS's that was a good basic. GPS, like some of the Garmin's or Magellan's, without the bells and whistles, I was wrong, at least with this one I got. I am not the " return " kind of person, but I do let my wallet do the talking, I change who I shop with and where I shop, to get that specific product that I need or want. I thought I was getting a GPS, but instead I Got a GP-mess. ... show more

  • If your using it and don't know the city your going its no good.
I bought the gps to use while driving a taxi cab and when my dispatcher gives me a address its usually only the street and number and not the city. I drive in a large county in Michigan with many citys, so if you don't have the city were the address is this gps is worthless. I would have to use MapQuest on my phone to find out exact city ! Im sending it back. ... show more

  • Slimline GPS Navigation for Car, (7 INCH) USA Edition 2022
It works for intended usage. Small learnig curve. Plenty of wire to route in car/van charger so it doesn't hinder driving. Updating is a problem. It's not a Garmin.
