Didn't want 36 inches because of space. But old table top unit I had was too small, at 26 inches wide. The extra BTUs made a difference in cooking time. The grill plate was chipped on three sides. I contacted the company and the next day they provided a satisfactory solution. Perfect size for two people, and doesn't take up much room on the patio. If you plan on using 1 pound propane tank you will need a adapter.
