  • Simple, fast-paced, and fun... but some rules weaknesses
The game is simple enough to learn and the kids like the theme. It's fast paced, yet it can lead to fun back-and-forth sequences as each player tries to hang on for one more round (or spoil the other players' attempts to do so). I felt there were some holes in the rules. There's a hand size limit of 3 cards, but it wasn't clear to me what you do if you exceed it. (The rules kind of imply that you just have to play cards to prevent this happening, but there are combinations of cards you could be holding where you can't play anything. The obvious thing to do is just discard; but can you choose to discard down instead of playing a card that could be legally played but wouldn't be advantageous?) For consistency with most games that have similar hand-limit rules, I tend to play that you just have to choose cards to discard if you reach that point in the turn with too many cards in your hand. The game setup doesn't specify the initial board configuration or player placement. If players get overly competitive, this could lead to conflict. Of course you could add your own rules. (A nice simple way is to rotate a "dealer" who's responsible for deciding the board setup, then have players choose starting positions in clockwise order starting to the dealer's left. Alternately, it might be interesting to work out rules for randomizing the board setup.) ... show more

  • Cute strategy game with clever mechanics and ugly design
This is a cute, family-friendly strategy game that strikes a nice balance between randomness and decision-making. It's easy enough to learn that children can play it, but has enough strategy to entertain adults, too. The theme is a little different and not something I've seen before, which is nice. You're basically trying to navigate the board without stepping on bugs and mucking up your boots. Last person standing wins. It's fairly fun and plays fast. Last person standing wins means that, yes, sometimes a player is knocked out early and just watches. That's never fun. Thankfully, it plays so fast, the wait time is rarely long. About the only MAJOR complaint I have is how UGLY it is. I get that mud is part of the theme, but it's brown, brown, brown, brown, and is not appealing. It needs a little more color in there to mix things up -- and no, the bugs are not enough. Even the headings on the cards are brown! It's an overall enjoyable little game, with good family fun. I just wish the visual design was a little better. ... show more

  • Friendly kids game
This is a family board game. The premise of the game is to use the cards to flip over tiles from mud to creatures/bugs. The game pieces are plastic boots. Up to five people can play. The player should be able to read because the cards tell the player what to do. The rules are a bit sketchy but once you get the hang of it strategy can be used. The idea is to be the last player standing. Good game for third or fourth grade age. Better with three or more players. ... show more

  • fun family time
We love this game! It was hours of fun for all of us. Game play is easy enough to understand, directions are simple, set up is a breeze. We really had fun playing this.

  • Fun game!
Very interesting and different game. It took us a little while to understand the directions, and set up the tiles. Definitely not a game for people that have OCD like my husband, because the tiles are always constantly moving and you have to keep putting them back in order. One of the things that bothered me about the game is that it is very dark and hard to see. I understand it's supposed to be like bugs and mud. The tiles are a dark brown and the board itself is very dark and it just Blends all into each other. It had good quality pieces but I wish there were indents in the board itself to keep the pieces from moving and sliding around, we spent most of the game trying to get the pieces where they were supposed to go. ... show more

  • Fun Kids Game
I found this game was fun to play with the kids. They like the design and attempting to not step on the bugs (player's pawn lands on a spot with a bug). The games can finish fairly quickly and that's good as the first person out has to wait for the game to end. Their is both an element of chance and strategy so that older kids (and adults) can be challenged. The instructions might need a little clearing up (looking forward to an errata on the company's website) but otherwise this is a fun little game! ... show more

  • Really fun for any age over 4
My family has been loving this board game. The illustrations are cute and silly, the rules are pretty easy to figure out, even my 4 year old can play and understands every rule and the cards have different pictures so kids who can't read can memorize what each photo means. Sometimes you get a game where nobody wins, sometimes you get a tie, but most of the time you get a normal game where one person wins. The gameplay can last anywhere from 5 minutes to 20 minutes depending on what cards you get. I love the gameplay, it's a little bit like survive but you want to stay on the tiles the whole game. The cards are a good quality and shuffle well. The boots are color coded by stickers which peel off easily so you have to make sure not to mess with them. The tiles are thick and heavy, they fit next to eachother nicely. I love all kinds of critters so I could pass on getting this game when I saw it! ... show more

  • a fun "the ground is lava" for kids and adults
This game is really fun. It is like "the floor is lava" game I played as a kid. You cannot step on the bugs, and as the game progresses there are less safe tiles to move to, until only one player is left standing. The game is creatively designed, from the boot player pieces, the hexagonal mud tiles, and the whimsical game cards. The cards are high quality and easy to shuffle. The plastic game pieces are well formed and feel durable. The gameboard is made of thick cardboard and covered in colorful bugs. Gameplay is easy to learn, and the game is kind of addicting to play. I started playing to test it oud, and ended up seriously playing over and over for a few hours with other people. I wish there were more mud tiles so you could have a larger gameboard when playing with 3+ people. The game ends rather quickly when playing with large groups. ... show more
