Had one of these before that was plastic, and it broke. I love that this one is stainless steel and looks great while it’s in. Having the three different size hair catchers is ideal because it makes it like a custom fit, my drain required the smallest filter.     • Major bathroom upgrade at little cost

My wife and I live in an apartment, and we've lived in them for years and years; landlords rarely make time to do something as basic as fix and replace the sink plug. It's a sad, pathetic truth... but just leaving it as an open hole isn't an option for us, small objects such as jewelry falling down the drain would be (and has been) upsetting and requires a costly and inconvenient plumber visit. SinkShroom is a product I decided to try out a few years ago, and the difference is night and day. First, it filters such objects, making it so that it's not possible to lose them down the sink; second (unanticipated at the time) is how much hair it keeps from going down the sink. The answer is: lots of hair. I won't be gross with any sort of metaphor or simile... use your imagination. If your sink doesn't currently have some kind of filter (the standard little hardware plug doesn't count, as they tend to let hair through and are difficult to remove and clean regardless), then it's happening to you as well. If you've had issues with your sink draining water slowly or getting clogged, I'll wager that's why a huge percentage of the time. We used to have this issue regularly and we'd spend money on bottles of drain cleaner, only to have the issue again in a few months. I've read that human hair causes almost all plumbing problems and now that I see how much used to go down the sink I understand why. Our sink hasn't gotten clogged since we started using this product. Nor has the shower/tub, as they make a similar item for such (it's a little different but works in the same way). The same sink and tub that used to get clogged don't anymore, and the only change was getting these, so it's pretty easy to tell that they were the solution. Cleaning it is fast and easy. Just pull it out of the drain and then wipe accumulated hair/anything else off it with a paper towel/rag, then throw away the mess and stick the SinkShroom back into the drain. The product itself isn't expensive. We needed a new one recently, new apartment has another sink than the last, and there was no question in my mind about whether or not to do it. For homeowners: if it saves you even ONE visit from a plumber (and over any amount of time, it probably will), then it's way more than paid for itself. It's not the sort of thing I get *excited* about, really I just install it (which is literally just "stick it in the drain") and leave it, but it's definitely a product I can enthusiastically endorse, because it absolutely prevents a lot of headaches.     • Effectively keeps hair from clogging your drains!

Since I'm reordering this product, I decided to leave a review for it. I had purchased this product back in May, 2020. Yesterday (4 months shy of using it for 3 years), while cleaning it, the top part become separated from the core piece. After inspection, I noticed part of the plastic hole where the core screw goes into and connects the two pars had broke. This likely could've happened because I was being a bit heavy handed while trying to scrub the top part clean...or perhaps the plastic just became brittle over time due from normal wear and tear. A few reasons why I've decided to keep using this product and highly recommend it: 1) Easy to install. It fits into the sink drain hole perfectly without restricting water drainage. 2) Easy to remove. You don't have to struggle twisting, turning, or pulling it out to clean and has a snug fit. 3) Fairly easy to maintain it's shine and keep clean. I just take a paper towel or tp and use it to wipe and collect all the hair, toothpaste, shaving cream, and scum that gets trapped and accumulated on the core screen. Many reviewers have already mentioned that the top part will change color, having a blackish or pinkish color over time due to not cleaning it frequently. I haven't experienced this yet. However, I do wipe down my sink area after use and also wipe the top part of the plug afterwards. This is likely why it's remained shiny after nearly 3 years of usage. 4) It catches and traps all the hair from going down the drain and causing clogs. This is the most important reason why I bought this in the first place! I haven't had any sink drainage problems since I've used this product. I highly recommend it! ... show more

I've used other bath sink drain catchers before and everything I bought at Home Depot doesn't compare to this little thing. One day I found the SinkShroom by accident at Home Goods. Home Good doesn't keep items on stock, everything is hit or miss. So after trying it out and seeing it was a superior product to the competition, I came to Amazon to purchase more. They are the perfect drain protection and catcher for your bathroom sink. It will get filthy, but comes back to shiny stainless steel. Works as if nothing was installed there! Great design! Its dome is above the lowest sink point, with three large openings on the plus it has openings on the top of the dome. Looks and works great. Leaves no puddles and is not slowing drainage. And the most importantly - no more hairy monsters down the drain! I have zero complaints.
