Right off the bat, things that come without instructions are a pet peeve. So the fact that there are no directions on how to set this up for success is moderately frustrating. By the end, I understood what California bro said about not being able to get the holds tight enough - the manufacturer should think about only including the long screws not the short ones. More threads = more better. The allen wrench included for assembly might be sufficient, if the screws were appropriate to the weight they would have to be holding up. As it was, to get the screws tight enough for the rack to stay put under weight, I had to raid the bike bag to get a real wrench that didn't flake apart under pressure. Once on the bike the rack handled well. Riders should consider taking some time to get acquainted with the new dimensions of your bike. You stick out ~way~ more than you think! It may take some time to get used to the new balance with the weight off to the side. These are to be expected though with almost any modifications to a bike. As of this writing, I only have a total of one day playing around with the bike with its new rack - will try to remember to update about how well/long it holds up. ... show more

The mounts that go into the seat post and the rods that go into cylindrical receptacles that hold the surfboard are tightend with allen bolt set scews, No matter how tight you crank down on bolts it comes loose when my children are riding the bikes. This can cause the surfboard to hit the rear tire or worse the ground causing a bike crash. It is a safety issue. I already tried to return it but missed the return package window, Our family are surfers here in Santa Cruz, CA so were not just kooks, this thing doesnt work, dangerous. ... show more

HORRIBLE! I tightened it as further as it goes. 2nd time using it, the wind blew it away from my bike, by board stuck to the back wheel and broke in 5 places. The bike stopped suddenly so I flew forward and hurted my elbow (I rolled so I wouldn’t hit my face on the ground at high speed). Bike broke too. I’m waiting for reparation. I could have died in this accident due to malfunctioning in manufacturing. A wind shouldn’t break the equipment at second time usage. ... show more

Overall this product does the trick. Nothing too fancy about it but it's pretty sketchy to ride a bike with anything longer than a 6'0". BUT a couple of mods make it a lot more sturdy.... namely drill a couple of holes through the clamps and the parts that hold the board to add locking screws to keep the whole thing from swiveling down. While it is great for the price, the rack slips pretty easily, meaning the board may hit the ground. It takes quite a bit of adjusting to get it right. Best when used with a short board, longboard too heavy.
