    • Possible to install near foot of bed / note about adjustable beds
Two notes: your mattress must be a minimum of 11" thick for this to work. 12" is better. Second, it DOES work for adjustable beds with the head of the bed raised, but only if you install it the opposite of the assembly instructions...and in that case, the person in bed will be UNABLE to get out on their own. Obviously this is only appropriate in a very limited number of cases (such as a dementia patient who is *constantly* monitored, or an able-minded and able-bodied sleeper who only requires a bed rail on one side of the bed.) If you're buying this for your own use, be advised that in order to reach the release mechanism the base of the rail must be installed close to the head of the bed. From what I can tell this makes this product impossible to use with an adjustable bed, because if you raise the head of your bed the angle of the rail will not work serve it's purpose of preventing night time falls, and further, getting in and out of bed on that side will be cumbersome, even with the rail lowered unless your mattress is about 14" or more thick. However, if a caregiver will be raising and lowering the rail, it actually works best to ignore the instructions and install the base close to the foot of the bed with the extending rails on the pillow side. This makes it much easier for someone to get in and out of bed (with the rail at it's smallest footprint or lowered completely) while also functioning perfectly to prevent falls. ... show more

I bought this for myself, a 72 year old woman who is in good health but kept falling off the bed. This has been a little difficult for me to use, but I am able to work out the difficulties. I think that for an older person or a more infirm person it would be very difficult. It is hard to get in and out of the bed when it is unlocked and it is hard to unlock when in the bed. I will get used to it because it definitely solves the falling out of bed problem, but it is not something you can use quickly. ... show more

This is nice, probably a little more than I needed for what I'm using it for (Short term- knee replacement surgery), but at the same time, having more specs and features and stability is not a bad thing. Very easy to install, and works great with my super thick mattress. The little organizer pouch is nice, I just had surgery and keep the remote, a book, my glasses and my pill pouch in there. Haven't needed the extender but i played with it and it was nice and easy. The fold down part is very beneficial to make it easy to get out of the way when needed. ... show more

My husband is struggling with dementia, sleep disorders, and maneuverability issues and has fallen many times including out of bed many times. So far this bed rail is wonderful. It is sturdy, attractive and folds down out of view. It is everything I had hoped it would be and more, and I don't feel it is lacking in any way. Only reason it didnt get 5 star is because it says it fits most average beds. We have an average 12 inch mattress.. Because of that when u fold it down the bar is higher than the bed so if hurts to have ur leg on it. I put a small part of a pool noddle on it and made a slip where the bar goes in and its better.
