I am going to predict that this is going to be the best retail vacuum that money can buy. We had a Shark for 16 years and its still running. We had to replace the hoses and brushes on the old unit once during that time. When we bought the old unit it replaced our Eureka which was half as powerful as the Shark Navigator we bought. Fast forward to the Powerdetect and once again we are amazed at its abilities. Filtration is great, suction and brush power is fantastic and the addition of led lights and Infared detection of dirt in the carpet is amazing! Not to mention the large volume canister and cord length is a nice improvement from the Navigator. Touch sensors on the handle to change modes manually for the different floor types is really nice too. Users will probably like the sensor that detects when the unit is close to the baseboards and increases the suction power to pull the Debree from the base of the walls. we personally like the fragrance of the deodorizer but we are also concerned its probably artificially made and not healthy. The first time we used it we used the Infared dirt technology and it took some time for us to deep clean the carpet. Hopefully next time wont take as long to clean as we believe it was just 6 years of built up dust, dander, and pet hair missed by the old vacuum. Now the time trial begins. we hope that this unit lasts as long as the previous Shark we owned but we predict that the sensors will be the first part to fail just like they do in vehicles. Time will tell. Only gripe we could really make is that it is heavier than the Navigator and it does want to pull forward when its on but what can you expect when it has to have a larger motor for the awesome suction power. If we can remember to come back and review this in a year we will. Hope this helps someone make a decision. As you will see in the photos, my little robot vacuum wasn’t cutting it. I have a rabbit and my roommate not only didn’t clean as often as he should’ve in my absence but he also decided to use my living room rug instead of the rug I bought specifically for my rabbit. Therefore, when my rabbit was in molting season the rug got pretty layered. I had a vacuum with a separated canister and it was so annoying to haul two pieces around, plus I feel like it didn’t do as good but with this it’s compact, easy to use, has the power, swivels surprisingly well, and easy to remove and continue vacuuming. The photo is 10minutes of me vacuuming the rug and getting it to look new again. The only downside to this vacuum is there isn’t storage for all the attachments. You can store two on the pegs at the bottom backside of the vacuum but you’re still left with one additional. It’s inconvenient and gives opportunity for loss. ... show more

This is my third Shark, the old Rotator Pro lasting 12 years, the second one being a Stratos corded stick which I use. This upright has three cleaning settings, and on the setting for hard flooring, nothing was left behind! No cereal crumbs, no stray kitty liitter, no little clumps of pet fur. The power fins worked really well, though there is a slight odd odor in use, but the warning light that the rollers are not working has not come on so I kept going. The suction at any setting was so great I could not vacuum the dog's bed without using the lift away and an attachment. The dust bin holds a lot and is very easy to empty. The controls are simple to use and well-placed. The hose could be a little longer for overhead use, but the extension cord length is fantastic. The dark blue color did make every pet hair which clung to the plastic base & column due to static electricity VERY noticeable, so another color option would be nice. The small odor neutralizing cup with the scented insert made very little difference even when I turned the scent knob to a higher setting, & was no "game-changer" for Shark to tout. I actually would prefer NOT to have it as I am not sure if I must use a costly scented insert to prevent loss of suction in future or can do without them. Initial review, take it with a grain of salt. I just got this vacuum and have used it twice and wanted to put my initial thoughts down first! I have a double husky household and have gone through two shop vacs, another (basic model) Shark, a hand me down Dyson, and a Bissell Powerlifter and out of everything I’ve used, this one vacuums up the pet hair the quickest, the cleanest, and the most thorough. I’m very impressed with the multiple settings and the multiple ways to empty the canister. It turns on a dime and also has the ability to go real flat and make it under the couch and beds. It has lights that light up the carpet to show you if you’ve missed anything, and both the cord length and the hose length are very long which I absolutely love! Very happy with its sheer suction power and the overall design. Now let’s get to what I don’t like about it. It’s actually awkward to maneuver. When it’s off, it’s very light and easy but when it’s on it sort of resists when you try to turn it or move it back and forth, it’s quite a bit of a workout. Another issue is the amount of hair it holds, it’s actually quite small when sizing it up to my past vacuums. The suction power makes up for it as it’s almost too good at picking up dirt and hair; if you have at least one long haired double coated dog like I do who is a never ending shedder, you have to stop and clean out this canister more often than with other vacuums. Now is that a pro or a con? I think that’s a good thing because it shows me how much less my Bissell picked up, but also a con because I’m constantly emptying it. So far I’m happy with this purchase. I do think it’s a good choice for those of us with pet hair households. I’m rating it overall probably a 4.5/5 stars, though I put it to 4 on my rating. It’s a fantastic vacuum, I just wish it was a bit bigger and easier to maneuver around. I may come back and edit this later on after I’ve had it for longer, we will see! ... show more
