  • Great book!
This book is packed with useful information. Even the technical parts are easy to read. I have learned so much from this book in just one afternoon.

  • Knowing your serger settings!
Used the information to do alterations for my granddaughter’s wedding. Could not have done them without knowing the settings from the serger book.

  • Informative, Lots of Pictures
Overall, It's a great resource and I'm glad I bought it. Some things I like: (1) the author uses approachable language- she is careful not to get overly technical. (2) an abundance of illustrations & photos. (3) sewing projects to practice learned skills. (4) Color-coded chapters; chapter 5 pages are bordered in RED, for example. A couple of things I think could be better: (1) Include a single reference chart for all stitch types, including name of stitch, how to set it up on the serger, and what it's used for. I have to hunt around between the book and machine manual (and sometimes the internet ) in order to get all the information I need to sew something on my own. The book has a great chart for which types of stitches to use on different fabrics, and individual charts for machine setup scattered throughout the book; I'd love to have one comprehensive chart I can easily reference. (2) Include a separate chapter for coverstitch machines. Mixing it in with standard serger operations, even though identified by subtitles, was confusing for a beginner like me to differentiate between what applied to my machine and what didn't. Other than those two minor complaints, I like the book and it has been a frequently sought resource when I'm getting my "crafty" on! ... show more

  • good basic serger overview
I would have liked just a bit more specific info on how to thread and change the tensions for the different techniques, such as flat locking. This book seems to assume that you are using a completely computerized serger-- or that you are gonna want one.
