  • Complicated but Fun Game
This is a beautiful game. The miniatures are exquisite and I may be painting them (using the painting guide on the website). The rules are complicated, and the solo rules a but more so, but not as complicated as say Arkham Horror. Having solo play rules is fantastic as it may be hard to find other players. I will have to look into getting the other expansions at some point. ... show more

  • Looks great but complicated
Rulebook This thing is a monster (39 pages) for a game that plays so fast. Given, there are a lot of visuals and not every section is relevant for every game (see solo mode or deckbuilding), but it is still really hard to digest and follow. I ended up watching a Youtube video to understand everything. Components There are plastic minis that are awesome with great detail and little arrows to clarify which direction to face. There are also cardboard standees that still look great. The other components (3d cardboard tree, gate, tokens, boards, etc.) all look visually stunning. You will not be disappointed with the components. Gameplay Sort of plays like Gloomhaven Jaws of the Lion, if you have experience with that one. I played solo but the concept is the same. You and your opponent will have a deck of cards that you can construct on your own, or you can use the provided lists in the rulebook. Each card has actions that you can take, but who gets to go first is determined by initiative value. You then take turns maneuvering and/or dealing damage until there is a victor. It plays really fast once you get the hang of it but there are a lot of fiddly rules to manage along the way. The solo campaign book tells a neat story with graphic novel style artwork to lead you through it. If you like games like Jaws of the Lion then you will likely enjoy this one. For me it was a tad too complicated for what you get from the actual play time. ... show more

  • 20 minutes to play? How?!
I played this for the first time this weekend with a group of seasoned board game buddies. "20 minute game, sounds fun!" Between reading the rules and actually playing the game, we spent nearly 2 hours on this. The rules are easier to understand once you play a bit, but the rule book is so convoluted that we couldn't even complete setup correctly without having to jump forward and backwards in pages to see: how to build a deck, how to choose terrain tiles, and how to time actions. The game looks really fun and the actual gameplay loop wasn't terrible, though I still think we might have played it somewhat incorrectly if we took over an hour on a single game that's supposed to take 20 minutes. But with how convoluted the rulebook was, I just can't recommend this game, at least for group play. Solo play looks far more organized but after the hours it took to get through one round, I haven't built up the wherewithal to try this again. Will update the review when I do try the solo mode. ... show more

  • Fantastic quality game!
I don't think I can say enough good things about this game. First, the artwork and design is fantastic. It includes a rulebook with everything you need, and there is a single player campaign with more art and scenario instructions so you can set everything up. The game itself feels a bit complicated at first, but that's really because you just have so many amazing choices to really dig into the depth of the game and strategy. After a few minutes you really get a feel for it, and then it's pure entertainment. I will note, that rule book is over 30 pages long. However, it is extremely well laid out and very simple to follow. They also pack a ton into an average sized game box. The cards have great color and art, and they're all cut extremely well. The miniatures look amazing as they are, and you could paint them to have an absolutely unbelievable effect. My only complaint is that a few of the cardboard punches weren't perfectly clean cut, so I had to be a little careful to make sure nothing ripped. Even then, it was very minor. FINAL WORD: This game is a huge success on multiple levels, and I highly recommend you give it a try. ... show more

  • Fantastic Strategy Game for the Advanced Player
This is a beautifully made and intricate game. If you play other serious strategy games like Magic the Gathering, Star Wars Rebellion, and Clank you will probably enjoy this too. There are a lot of specific rules to learn upfront and you need to track a lot of different symbols and states - that said, once you figure everything out the game play is fairly quick and very enjoyable. I love the figures and the attention to thematic detail that went into this game. The Japanese setting is well done and all of the components are of high quality. And being able to play this solo is very nice for some variety. I highly recommend this for people who like deeper strategy games as it's a good value and good fun with lots of replay-ability. ... show more

  • Decent Game with needed Rule Clarifications
The game is simple to understand and play, yet the rule book makes it a shore to get to the table. The rule book should simplified and streamlined. The mechanics is mostly based on card play. With the amount of cats available there is plenty of replay value. The miniatures & tiles look great, although; the cards could be better quality. Overall, the game would be a better experience if the rule book had an overhaul. ... show more
