This works well enough for what you need it to get done. Does not work very well on hard to remove algae spots. I just couldn't get these razers to cut away from those really stubborn spots.

For scraping off algae, you'll need a sharp blade. The magnetic plastic scrapers can remove the thin biofilm, but it doesn't do well against the stubborn algae. I wouldn't waste time on those. Make sure you get one with a replaceable blade like this one. The blade will get dull over time, so you'll waste money replacing the entire glass cleaner. Unless you have a large aquarium, over 40-50 gallons, the standard single razor blade will be enough and make for cheaper replacement blades. It'll also be easier to reach tight spaces with this one. This will only work on glass. Any other surface will cause scratches. If you don't have any fish in the tank, using a magic eraser is much faster for removing algae, especially after a vinegar soak. Overall, this is a wonderful glass algae scraper. It comes with an extension rod that you don't have to use if you don't want to get your hands wet. It has 10 replacement blades, but getting 100 more is under $10. The only thing this lacks is an easy way to store it in between use. At the time of this review, you could purchase this for $12 with a 20% coupon, so it's $9.59. ... show more

    • Good to aerate the soil and remove algae!
Overall impression: I like the scraper as I could "fluff" the sand/soil for my 55g tank with ease. The scraper was well made and the scraper did not scratch my fish tank. Also, before I had to use the magnet scraper that would scratch the glasses on my tank. Now I can do my entire tank in less than 10mins. The media could not be loaded. This is a very well-made tool of corrosion-free 304 stainless steel. The ends screw together to form a solid and secure joint. There is minimal flex and you get a good, ergonomic scraping action. The blade mount is ergonomic with 2 stainless thumb screws that pinch the blade between to metal plates.
