  • Very nice siphon/vacuum with no leaks
Size: 25FT
tldr: The AQQA Aquarium Siphon Vacuum Water Changer did a great job both siphoning and filling my 55-gallon and 15-gallon aquaria. The system was easy to set up and connect to the faucet, did not leak, and included some nice touches, such as a flow start/stop valve near the vacuum tube which can be hung on the lip of the aquarium. The piece which hangs on the lip was too narrow for my aquaria, however. This, and tubing that could be stiffer, are what kept this from being 5 stars. Pros:  Works great  Easy set up  No leaks  Vacuum tube has a strainer to prevent sucking up fish, plants, or gravel  Flow control valve near end of tubing  Easily switches between siphon and fill Cons:  Flow valve holder is too narrow to hang on lip of aquarium (this may be fixed in an upgrade)  Tubing is too flexible which allows for easy storage, but can lead to kinking  Nut on the faucet adapter was stiff and difficult to turn  faucet adapter made of plastic rather than metal Transparency disclosure: I received this water changer as part of the company’s product testing program. However, receiving this product was not contingent on my writing a positive review, and this review is my honest assessment of the water changer. Full review: The changer worked very well. The directions were pretty clear, and connecting the parts was simple. I recommend adding a little lubricant (such as vegetable oil, petroleum jelly, or glycerine) onto the hose barbs of the flow valve and faucet adapter. This will make it much easier to connect the tubes, and will help prevent any damage to the valve and adapter from applying too much force while connecting the tubes. It will also ensure the tubes slide in as far as possible and create the best seal when the nuts are tightened, thus reducing the likelihood of a leak. I also found it helpful to completely remove the nut and slide it over the end of the hose so that the tube can more easily be connected completely to the hose barbs. Then the nut can be slid back and screwed onto the adapter. Connecting the changer to sink was easy. It comes with adapters for three sizes of faucet (21mm, 23mm, and 1 in). I was happily surprised to see that pipe tape was included; that was unexpected. I had some dripping (but no spraying) when I first connected the faucet adapter (using the 1 inch connection) without using tape. After applying the pipe tape, there was still a tiny amount of dripping, but as the adapter is over the sink, it didn’t matter to me. The nut on the faucet adapter (where it connects to the faucet) was very stiff and difficult to turn. I had to use a glove or a towel to protect my hand. The second time I used the changer, I put some lubricant between the nut and adapter, and that solved the problem. After turning on the sink, the changer began siphoning quickly. Other than the tiny dripping mentioned above, there were no leaks anywhere. Changing between the siphon and filling functions was simple and worked great. I found it useful to close the flow valve (or remove the vacuum tube from the aquarium), place the faucet adapter into siphon position, and then turn on the faucet. This allowed me to adjust the temperature of the water coming from the faucet before starting to fill the aquarium. Then, I opened the flow valve, and set the faucet valve to the fill position to divert the water to the aquarium. I liked that the changer came with an intake strainer to prevent sucking up fish, plants, or gravel. The changer did a good job removing debris from the bottom of the aquarium. The size of the strainer, while making vacuuming efficient, makes it a little difficult to use in a heavily planted aquarium. Perhaps a second, smaller strainer could also be included. I also liked that there was a flow valve, and that there was a hook to allow the valve to be hung over the lip of the aquarium. This made it very easy to start and stop flow, as the sink to which the changer was connected is in a different room from the aquaria. While I really liked the idea of the hook, the opening was too small for either of my aquaria. The opening is 0.5” wide, but the top edge of my 15 gallon aquarium is 0.75” wide, and on the 55 gallon, it is 1” wide. I think these are fairly standard widths. I recommended to the company that they make the size of the hook opening adjustable (maybe between 0.5” and 1.5”). They said they would try to do that in a future upgrade. I would prefer stiffer tubing. The current tube is easily rolled up for storage, but susceptible to kinking. In fact, the 1.8 ft tube that connects the flow valve to the vacuum tube kinked where the tubing crossed the lip of the aquarium from the weight of the flow valve and tubing. Being able to hook the valve onto the aquarium would help prevent this, but kinking also occurred when rolling up the 25 ft. tube for storage. ... show more

  • Nice if you hook it up right.
Size: 25FT
This is a really nice and powerful water changer but it was a bear to put together. I wasn't able to get the hoses to connect to the water on/off connection very well and had one heck of a mess on my carpet. They just didn't seen to fit right at all. I struggled really bad and now I do not use the water turn off valve at all because of it. Other than that, oh my goodness did it save me time from hauling water! ... show more

  • Safe for very small fish
Size: 50FT
My tanks rims are too wide except my 5g which is too short. I will modify it though and make good use of it. This will keep my goby and pleco fry safe.

Used it way past my return date so I couldn’t return it. The hose wouldn’t stay connected to the middle piece so I had to use it without it.

The media could not be loaded. This product aquarium is so convenient to change water and clean gravel. I didn't know about it before. I always take out all the gravel and clean it, which takes me two hours. Wasting my time. This product is so good that it usually takes 15 minutes to clean my 30 gallon aquarium. Save your time. • Good for water change
Size: 25FT
Not good for gravel cleaning. The suction is to weak to clean the tank. I use it to change the water.
