    • You are not getting an SE mandrel. It appears to be a cheap knockoff.
Style: Indexing Stepping
The item received is not the item described or pictured. It appears that either the manufacturer dropped their standards altogether or else this is a cheap knockoff. First of all, it is brushed aluminum rather than polished steel. Secondly, it is indexed but not with painted numbers as pictured. Thirdly, the product descriptions includes this caveat: " IMPORTANT: Avoid getting counterfeit items. Genuine SE products come with our SE logo on the packaging. SE is a registered trademark protected by US Trademark Law." The item I received does not have the logo on the package. Fourthly, the ring sizes appear to be off by a half-size in the lower range. Fifthly, the milling is grossly inconsistent with the steps having very obviously different increases in height. There is no way this is worth the price being charged. However, it is the only stepped mandrel I can find that has both full- and half-sizes on the same rod. I sent the first one back but the one I received today is worse than the first. I'll send this one back, also, and will continue to send them back until I get one that is fairly close to being decently made. Very frustrating. ... show more

I just got this in the mail today and I was extremely pleased to see that I got one with the trademark, especially since that was not the experience some buyers had listed here. The mandrel is Heavy, clearly steel, not aluminum and it is smooth and clearly marked. As I have not had metal on it yet, i cannot say if it gets marked up, but assuming I truly got the real product I think I'm in the clear. If I find otherwise I will update my report. This mandrel is MADE OF LEAD! It would have been nice to have a warning with the online description. I opened up the box excited but then saw a prop 65 and lead warning sticker. GROSS! Why in tarnation would I want a product with lead? Best believe this will be returned at full swiftness.

I wasn't sure about this when I first received it. I got the one that is tiered by size. It's aluminum so not something you want to ravage with a hammer, though I have done so and it's held up pretty well. I find it is great for getting the right size and seems far more accurate than my tapered sizing mandrel. It is also great for making rings out of wire etc. Glad to have this in my toolbox. Have been using it around a month. The numbers have started to rub off, but these are things I don't really consider to be a big deal if the tool is helping me do my job. ... show more

Heavy-duty mandrel. It is very good and seems to be quite accurate. Very heavy. It is not stainless, so you need to keep oiling it. We make rings from coral and metals (gold, silver and stainless), and need a means of measuring the final result. Also, sometimes we need to stretch the metal rings. Works well. ... show more
