  • Valuable tool to have
Size: 2-9mm Wire Looping Pliers
This item is not necessary for beads and wire but it sure does make things a lot easier and convenient. Highly recommend whether you're a beginner or seasoned jewelry person. It takes a bit of practice to handle it and be efficient but I don't know how I went without it.

  • Precise and Near Bullet-proof
Size: 2-9mm Wire Looping Pliers
Purchased to enable making nice-looking bends in component-leads, ground loops, etc. for electronics-hobbying, one of the first uses was to fix the bottom dish-tray in a dishwasher. Having a personal policy of rarely sacrificing a job for a tool (replacement tools are nearly always cheaper than paying someone else for repairs or replacing broken items), I used these pliers to make clips from pieces of 2mm-thick (yeah!) stainless-steel wire. The pliers never grunted and did what was needed, even for that! And they still work for detailed work with fine copper wire. The things are really built well! Btw, I chose these instead of those with the end-tapered type, because trying to bend two separate ends of wires neatly on anything requires selecting the same place along the taper...not something I trusted myself to do well. ... show more

  • work for what I want (making loops in headpins and eyepins)
Size: 2-9mm Wire Looping Pliers
I bought these because I wanted to be able to make uniform loops in the ends of headpins and eye pins. I find that the loops I make in necklaces don't matter quite as much, but poorly-made/asymmetrical loops don't look good in earrings because they can result in elements not hanging right. These are nice in that you can make the same size of loop every time. (I don't think I would ever make jump rings -- I simply don't have the patience for that.) Because each section is a cylinder instead of part of a cone, each section is of uniform diameter throughout the section. For the record, these have six different sections (three on each side). These handle well. I have very small hands with weak wrists but that has not been a problem; I can still operate these. The handle is coated with some sort of plastic or vinyl and is comfortable to hold and will not slip in your grip. (There was no plastic or chemical smell.) The fulcrum works well and there was no rust when these were received. One thing that may not go over as well with people is how the jaws of these close. They do touch at the very tips, but they are separated a little at the base, near the largest loops. If you are using fairly thick wire (say, 16 or 18 gauge), this will probably not be much of an issue because you should still be able to get a grip. But there might be issues if you are using thinner wire to make larger loops. (Because the tips do close, you can certainly make very small loops with thinner wire, which is mostly what I am interested in.) Overall, I am happy with these. They do what I need (there's really not much of a learning curve, either) and I can think of some additional possibilities for future use (I am just starting out with wire). 3.5 stars. ... show more

  • Use for household electrical...
Size: 2-9mm Wire Looping Pliers
I do occasional electrical repairs around the house. Typically, it involves replacing a wall outlet, or a light switch. There are little screws on switches and outlets typically found in homes and businesses that the electrical wires are attached to. When attaching a wire, the proper way to do it is to make a bend in the wire to hook onto the screw. The usual tool that I have used to make the hook is a needle nose plier. Electrical wire is supposed to be installed in a pristine condition. Scratches and nicks in the wire are frowned upon, because they interfere with the flow of electricity. Particularly for solid core wire (as opposed to stranded wire), which makes up the bulk of electrical wire in homes and commercial locations. While the needle nose plier is an electrician's tool, it has a machined surface on the face of the jaws. Presumably, the reason is for gripping and pulling wire. However, for me, that machined surface always put nicks in the wire when I formed the hook at the end to attach to a switch or outlet. I found out about this "jewelry" or "baler's" plier from a YouTube video by Adam Savage, formerly of the Mythbusters cable t.v. program. He gushed about how useful this tool was in his fabrication shop. For me, it was immediately evident that this plier, with its smooth, rounded surfaces, could solve my nicked electrical wire problem. I looked it up on amazon (is there anything they *don't* sell?) and ordered it immediately. When it arrived, I tried it out on some safety wire, because I didn't have any electrical wire handy, for a quick test. It seems like it will do the job and I can't wait for an electrical problem to come up so I can give it a real world test. ... show more
