  • Would have given it ten stars
The quality exceeded my expectations. I would have never expected the weight and quality especially at this price point. I would highly recommend this to novice or craftsman.

  • Great for jewelry making
My brothers and I have been practicing sand casting copper rings, and this is an excellent tool set to get started with ring making. The ring sizers are true to size, and all of the equipment is functional, sturdy, and gets the job done. This kit has pretty much everything you could need for shaping and sizing rings. You can't beat the value for the price, especially if you were to purchase these components separately. ... show more

  • Nice set but....
This is a nice jewelry set but mine was clearly a return, it even had a return slip printed out and a huge Amazon sticker on it showing it was a return. Despite that everything seemed fine and was all complete. I'm happy to have the ring sizers and metal mandral and also the hammer because I'm learning to make jewelry so these all come in handy. I've used a plastic mandral before and this one is definitely better. ... show more

  • Near professional quality at a really good price.
I made rings for a living for Tiffany & Co. for ten years. So I have not done that in a while but I am going to be trying my hand soon at making rings at home for sale on the internet and I am beginning to assemble what I need. When I saw this kit I jumped at the chance. A professional tapered ring gage would typically cost us $35 when purchased from one of the major suppliers. That was in 2014. I don't know how much they cost now but probably more. That was for JUST the tapered ring gage. The one in this kit is accurate to within .0015 inches. I know because I checked it with my Starrett micrometer which can measure accuracy to within +/- .0002 inches and yes I calibrated my micrometer first. So this passes the test we would have used at Tiffany & Co. to check the calibration of our tapered ring gages which I did weekly because platinum rings can wear down even a high quality professional ring gage over time. I will only be making silver and gold rings and no where near the same volume our shop did. I would imagine this will last me for the entire duration of my ring making endeavors. In any case, for a hobbyist or a relatively low volume jeweler (Our high volume shop used to check over 200 platinum ring sizes per shift per maker on each gage). For such a use the gage that comes with this kit is perfect. For me, the price would only need to include the ring taper gage. Everything else bellow I consider a bonus. Next I checked the finger gages. This is the gang of rings attached to a larger central ring like a key ring. These are used to measure your fingers to see what size ring you should get. I have a size 9.5 ring on my right ring finger that I have worn nearly every day since I left that business. It is a ring I made. it is at precisely within .0002 inches of the very center of the tolerance for a size 9.5 ring. I checked to see what size this set of finger gages fits my finger best and wouldn't' you know, it says 9.5. I randomly checked the inside diameters of five of these finger gages including the largest and smallest and each was .002 inches or better from perfect and that is the same tolerance we used at Tiffany & Co. for inside ring diameters. So I would say the finger gages, while not perfect, are within industry standard. Ours were a little tighter tolerance but then ours also cost $60 ten years ago. The resizing mandrel is almost identical to what we had. Ours cost $25. This works by taking a ring that is a little tight and you slide it down the mandrel and then take the rubber mallet and gently tap around different points on the ring so it gets really tight on the mandrel then you tap it off and turn it around and do it again. Try gently first time then after practice you can get good at this. You can usually get between a quarter size and half size larger. I don't recommend trying to stretch a ring more than 1-1 1/2 sizes up. You can damage a ring any more than that. Don't even bother trying to do that with a platinum ring. If the ring is a complicated ring with lots of stones and you are not a jewelry professional I suggest don't try this at home. You can damage such a ring if you stretch it more than a quarter size. Oh one more thing, do NOT use your aluminum ring gage to stretch a ring, that is what your ring stretching mandrel is for. That's the one that doesn't have number son it. In any case this is probably one of the best deal on hobby tools I have seen on Amazon. even if you only ever want this to occasionally stretch one of your rings, it's a good deal since today, that service which used to be free, is often costly. I know of one jeweler who charges $25 to stretch a plain basic wedding band a half a ring size. Note: none of these can be be used to reduce the size of your ring. I highly, highly recommend this ring sizing took kit for hobbyists and low volume professionals alike. ... show more

  • Low quality
I was so excited to get this so I could start hammering out my metal pieces. The head of the mallet came off after the 4th hit. I have done everything short of superglue to try to fix it but it just won’t snug down. The ring sizers are plastic and feel quite brittle, I don’t expect them to last long. ... show more

  • Easy to use and very accurate!
This kit has everything that a ring aficionado might need. My wife having recently gone through pregnancy has had to measure and remeasure fingers from time to time. With this kit measuring your ring size has never been easier. This has also made it easier for me than ever before to buy rings for her that I find secondhand Using the ring measuring wand. My wife has also successfully resized a couple of rings that she hasn't been able to wear in years thanks to the accessories in this kit. It's easy to use and won't damage your valuable jewelry. we really should have gotten this a long time ago but I'm glad we finally have it now ... show more
