Description

While empires rise and fall in Eastern Europa, the rest of the world takes notice. Two distant factions, Albion and Togawa, send emissaries to scout the land and employ their own distinct styles of conquering. Scythe: Invaders from Afar, an expansion for Scythe, adds two new factions: 10 miniatures, 62 custom wooden tokens, and 2 faction mats. It also includes some new cardboard tokens, two new player mats, six Automa cards, and a custom plastic insert designed to fit into the expansion box or the original Scythe box.

This scythe expansion adds the last two factions to the base game and allows you to play with up to 7 players! Even if you don't want to play with that many players it is still great to add this to your game because each of the factions have their own special abilities and this will add to the flavor and replay of the game. If you do want to play with higher player counts I recommend you also by the board extension. It's not very expensive and adds the missing third to the back of the base game board for a huge playing surface. This is a solid Buy it! From me. ... show more

    • A great first expansion for an already stellar board game.
This expansion for Scythe adds 2 completely new playable races and a few new tokens. Now it may not seem like much at first but once you really start digging into what these races really offer, it becomes a game changer. First of all but adding two more races to the game, it effectively increases the player cap to 7 players! Now I haven't played a 7 player game YET but I can imagine it would get crowded pretty quickly on that board which would make for a more intense game. As far as the 2 new races go, at first I thought they were pretty over powered as both of their starting locations on the board are not blocked off by a river or water so they are free to roam about the land right off the bat before any upgrades. However after delving into the other races abilities I discovered that they have some abilities that allow them to move around the board much quicker so it pretty much evens out. The new abilities that the new races have are unique and interesting. I especially like the Togawa ability to lay down traps, this is freaking awesome in more ways than one. First off when you lay a trap it claims that land as yours so it adds to your overall land score at the end game. However an opposing player can still capture that land BUT it will set off the trap which will impact 1 of 4 different things against that player such as their popularity or military power. The second race, the Albion, are also interesting as they can place down flags on land they control which effectively doubles that land count. So the piece of land that they have flagged it worth 2 instead of the usual 1. Not quite as neat as the Togawa's ability but handy nonetheless. As far as the pieces go, they are amazing as per usual. The two new character's are very well represented in plastic with the human's accompanying their respected animal companion. The mech's are represented in green and purple respectively and each have their own unique look. Same goes with the little wooden worker pieces. The expansion also adds some new money tokens of a higher value. You probably won't ever use these unless you are playing with at least 5 players though. Not much else is included as the original game board already has the places printed on it for the two new races. All in all I highly recommend this expansion if you are craving more after playing Scythe. ... show more

If you like Scythe but wished there was more to keep track of, then this is for you. The two additional factions make the game more interesting, to be sure.

I am a new Scythe player and had never really played a game like it before. I love board games though and it looked so fun. It really is! I am hooked and all the friends I have played it with now love it. So I ended up getting this expansion and it adds a new layer to the game and I really like the 2 new factions. I was a little worried about the pieces being damaged or the boards being bent, for some games I wouldn't care too much but this game is so tied up in it's unique, beautiful look that I want all the pieces to look great and well-made. None of the boards were bent or damaged and the pieces were in fantastic condition. The only thing was a couple of the mechs were not snapped into the plastic holder box when I received it, so they were kind of loose in the box, but they weren't damaged at all or anything.     • An excellent addition to the base game
I'm glad that I purchased this expansion. The additions of the two factions makes for more game variety as well as allowing more players. The figure quality is the exact same as the base game. If you have the base game I highly recommend purchasing this.
