  • Very Satisfied
Style: Ice Maker
I purchased this ice machine to replace a 14-year old GE unit that had been problematic and finally flat out died. Scotsman was a known brand to me as I had purchased several of their commercial machines going back almost 50 years ago. They were top of the line then and I am pleased with the quality of the machine I purchased judging from its fit and finish and operation to date. Installation was straightforward, particularly since I was replacing an existing machine and had the water supply with a filter and a drain already installed. You do need to get behind the machine to attach the drain line and space may be tight depending on your counter configuration. I was able to slide the adjacent wine cooler out and get behind the ice machine from the side. There were no issues at start-up. Within a short time large, clear ice cubes (cylinders?) were dropping into the bin. Noise: many have commented about the Scotsman machine’s noise level. When it is making ice the refrigeration unit starts first, followed by the water circulating pump. The noise level seems to me to be equivalent to the old GE unit I replaced. The difference comes when the cubes are discharged into the bin. Unlike the GE that produced rather small square cubes, the Scotsman produces large cylindrical ice that drop with burst of thuds into the bin. Certainly noisier than the GE, but only for those few moments when it is discharging ice. My machine is in our family room three or four feet behind the sofa I use when watching TV. The noise level isn’t a problem and I often don’t realize it’s been running until it drops ice. The quality of the ice is the reward for the increased noise. The large, clear cubes last longer in a drink than the small GE cubes. They are so clear they almost disappear from sight in a gin and tonic and their slower melting keeps the drink cold longer with less dilution. The quality of ice also offsets the operating costs of under-counter ice machines. Unlike refrigerator ice makers these machines are constantly replacing ice by allowing the cubes to slowly melt inside the insulated, but not refrigerated bin. Even if you don’t take any ice out the machine will run to replace the melted cubes each day. The upside of this is a constant supply of fresh ice that doesn’t harden into a block at the bottom of the bin or acquire a “taste” from being stores too long in the freezer. I am convinced I made a good choice buying Scotsman. It appears their quality and technology have not slipped over the years, ... show more

  • Perfect for my home bar
Style: Ice Maker
After having trouble tracking down anyone who had the consumer version of this, I crossed my fingers and ordered this commercial version. It's definitely got a bigger capacity than I need, but the speed of freezing and the quality of the cubes is superb. It's not quiet - you can hear it run and you can hear the ice drop, especially when the bin is empty. But it's FAST at making ice - even if you're using a lot for a big party, you can count on enough new ice dropping to keep up with demand. I haven't cleaned it yet, so I can't comment on that, but looks like the process is at least well-documented, although time consuming. Overall I'm very happy - my primary objective with the Scotsman was the size & clarity of the cubes for high-end mixed drinks, and I'm quite pleased with the results. ... show more

  • Very noisy and poorly insulated.
Style: Ice Maker
This product is an absolute dissapointment. The noise level is absurd. This machine does not belong inside a home. The ice melts very fast inside the bin as it is not well insulated so the noise never stops. I tried to return it but I was 3 days past my window and the seller did not want to work with me to return it. ... show more

  • Makes great Ice
Style: Ice Maker
This ice maker replaced a kitchen aid ice maker we had for about twenty years. Had to repair that one many times. I was also far nosier that this Scotsman. Has been installed for about 3 months, works perfectly and the noise level is not that bad, considering that all undercounter ice makers make noise. No getting around it. The one criticism that was valid is that when it drops ice, the ice tends to bunch up right against the door. ... show more

  • Great customer service from Burkett restaurant and supply
Style: Ice Maker
This is a great small outdoor ice maker for under the counter. We had some problems installing.. It was built wrong from the factory. I contacted Burkett restaurant and supply to help us with this. They couldn’t have been more helpful. I spoke with a man named David who diligently helped me through the process. He not only got the authorization from Scotsman, he helped contact the proper people to help fix this. I highly recommend this product and Burkett restaurant supply in Ohio for all of your appliance needs ... show more

  • Product okay, delivery was a disaster.
Style: Ice Maker
The ice maker has a noise level that is higher then the Kenmore we previously had. Also, the cube size is bigger then we would prefer. Unfortunately, there isn’t a size variation capability. Otherwise, the unit is fine. The delivery however was a disaster. R+L Delivery called me to set up a delivery between 1 and 5 on a Friday so I took a half day of vacation time so I could be there to sign. The driver never showed up. I called them back and set up for delivery with them for the following Tuesday and took another half day of vacation. Again the driver never showed. I called again and was informed that the unit had just gotten delivered to THEIR dock that Tuesday afternoon. They scheduled the delivery to me twice, I gave up 2 half days of vacation, and they didn’t even have the unit in there possession yet. I know this has nothing to do with the actual product but whoever is responsible for selecting the delivery system should be aware of the ineptitude of R+L Delivery. A quick side note; when on hold with R+L the recording talks about their commitment to “World Class Service”. What a joke. ... show more

  • Work horse icemaker
Style: Ice Maker
Replaced a Uline icemaker with this Scotsman and the difference is night and day. This Scotsman runs circles around the other. It wasn't difficult to install and was full the next morning. It looks great and has performed very nicely. You hear it when it is filling up and of course when the ice drops. But it is not any louder than the Uline or GE we had before that. We are extremely happy with this ice maker. ... show more

  • Noise Level Unbearable
Style: Ice Maker
If a loud, noisy machine would annoy you, DO NOT install this machine in your daily living area! I have it in my bar area on the same level as kitchen and living room. It runs constantly. It is very loud. Also, I learned that it being a Scotsman, regardless of it's residential size, is considered a commercial machine. Therefore the trip and cost repairs are about three times as much as a residential machine would be. I cannot recommend this for residential home use. ... show more
