    • Fast document scanning with ScanSnap iX1600.
This printer was purchased to scan genealogy records, in large part to go digital with storage of those records for attachment to a family database as either .pdf or .jpg files. Installation was pretty simple. I did have to physically connect the printer to my iMac (using an included cable) for purposes of installation of drivers. Once installation was finished, the installation process prompted me to remove that cable. At that point, the printer worked flawlessly via Wi-Fi. Printing is very fast. File sizes are reasonable, although I have thus far only scanned to .pdf in black and white, not yet in color. A forty page black and white document scanned within ten seconds, with a resulting file size is 8.3 MB. One of the things that I really like about the scanning process is that you can name the file immediately after scanning is complete, and that you can direct scans to save within a user-specified folder. I have not tried scanning photographs since this particular printer is not intended for that application. Would I buy this printer again? The answer is yes, with no hesitation. ... show more

I was looking for a higher resolution to scan all tax records and old photos. The Ricoh iX1600 was the solution. Incredibly fast, scans both sides (under 1 second) at the same time with great resolution. The auto document feed work great…put 30 to 40 pages and it’s done. I researched a lot of scanners before I chose this one. I am happy I picked this one! I can use it from my desktop computer, laptop or my phone (I tend to use it mostly from my phone) It was easy to set up and super easy to scan and send to file or in email etc. It is very fast and a breeze to use. I used to work in Document Imaging and I remember the complications of scanning and organizing documents. This scanner is FAST and the accompanying software is the whole suite, all you need. The ScanSnap brand has line has been in the market for a while so you know they know their thing!     • Very Difficult to Use
We had a power surge while trying to install the firmware. Now the scanner says “boot mode” and won’t continue downloading. Tried unplugging, restarting, nothing works. I’ve been out of the country and planning a funeral and now missed the deadline to return by 1 day. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT!!

Knocked off one star for using an ancient external power adapter (comes with an ac->DC brick) or even USB-C PD as it only requires 40W DC (16V, but easily within spec with minimal mods). Manufacturers need to move away from these antiquated power conversion devices and to the standard USB-C power delivery format and consumers need to continually remind them that these went out with the corded phone and dial tone. ... show more
