Description

For use on clothing, tents, and other gear, Sawyer Premium permethrin clothing Insect repellent not only repels insects, It actually kill ticks, mosquitoes, chiggers, mites, and more than 55 other kinds of insects on contact. It is effective against the Aedes Aegypti (Yellow Fever Mosquito). Permethrin is odorless after drying and will not Stain or damage clothing, fabrics, plastics, finished surfaces, or any of your outdoor gear. Use it while hunting for an odorless way to protect yourself from common bugs. The active ingredient Permethrin is a synthetic molecule similar to pyrethrum which is taken from the Chrysanthemum flower. A single application lasts up to six washings or up to 40 days of sun exposure. Repellent should be applied outdoors and before clothing is worn; after it’s treated, hang clothing and let dry 2 hours (4 hours in humid conditions). Last month I went walking at a new park. I was covered in ticks. Seriously about 20. I have walked at a lot of parks and never have had that happen. I was in shambles!!! Of course I checked myself good, immediately dried my clothes and shoes and took the longest shower of my life. I bought this for peace of mind. I bought two outfits just to go to parks in and a pair of boots. I sprayed them good with this. I will buy more. I let it dry. Then everytime I get ready to go I also use deet spray. Over kill? Yes. Is it bad to put one over the other? I don't know I've not had another tick on me. So if I grow two heads or extra fingers from all the bug sprays oh well. Worth it to be tick free 🙂 ... show more

Camped in east texas, never saw a single bug on me, not even a mosquito bite. some tips: Wash your clothes after the application process to prevent any smell. Be very careful with this around pets. It is especially dangerous to cats when wet, but you should still store any clothes treated with permethrin in an enclosed area that isn't accessible to your animals. For me that's as simple as throwing them in a tupperware in my closet. ... show more

I like to road bike ride in the rural countryside and in farm country. When I stop for breaks, I often wade into knee-high weeds to get out of the view of traffic. I've been quite concerned about getting bitten by ticks and getting Lymes Disease even year-round. I know people who have gotten Lymes Disease, and they suffered greatly. I sprayed my knee-high compression bike socks to protect my lower legs and feel a little more prepared for ticks and other insects. It's a lot easier than constantly putting on one time applications of insect repellent which bothers my skin by contact. Went to Mexico for 6 days and was in rainforest doing tons of activities and I was only bit 2 times the whole trip. Normally I leave with at least 15 mosquito bites. The reason for the 4 stars is bottle was not filled all the way. Seemed half empty.

    • My experience when applying to clothes

I can't comment on how it works yet, because I haven't worn any of the clothes out where there are mosquitoes. I am just writing about what it was like to apply it to clothes. It was difficult for me to find a place outside away from wind to hang clothes. I finally put a clothesline between 2 posts on our back porch fence which is partially protected from wind. The next problem was deciding what to treat. We're going away for a month and I will take way too many t-shirts and tops to treat. Taking only a few jeans and pants. So I hung what I thought was an outfit, jeans, jean jacket and socks. I used up almost the whole 12 oz on those. Maybe I used too much, so then bought a 24 oz bottle and did a bunch more clothes. It's amazing how it did have a chemical smell when spraying but when dry there is no smell. I used rubber gloves to spay and to touch the clothes when I needed to turn them. I also made sure I had glasses on to somewhat protect my face. When it was windy out the spray floated towards me a little. I was wearing sandals and wish I had socks on when that happened. I shook it up as directed, but forgot to shake it after that when doing more batches. I think it's going to be difficult to remember exactly what I did treat after I do a load of wash that has both types of clothes in it. Also, it was difficult to decide what to treat in the first place. So I only did outer garments, and not tops like T-shirts. There was a lot of a breeze when I did some of the batches, so I will never know if that blew away too much of the chemical before it had a chance to attach itself to the clothes. I sprayed only the tops of little socks I wear with sneakers, and the foot part of socks that I take to wear with sandals if it gets cold. I will never know which were sprayed after the first wash. I think this product would be good for a man who is going somewhere with lots of mosquitoes and doesn't pack lots of clothes, not a woman like me who packs too many clothes because the temperature will change a lot on the trip. Wish me luck - mosquitoes seem to love me and ignore others all around me. ... show more
