As you can see from the images, this material blocks light very well. We cut the material as instructed and placed the glue pads in the corners of the windows. I chose not to cover top to bottom in one piece. It made more sense to cover each pane separately. As I placed the material in position the room became much darker. We did our best, but there were still places where we had to toss on a bit of clear tape to seal up the more drastic light leaks. We don't mind and know that it being our first time contributed to some of the flaws. The directions should give tips and hints more readily to assist the beginner. The ever so brief instructions include that the kit has the velcro as well, but again, I really didn't see anything on using them. Simple enough I know, however the manufacturer might have a different intended use than what I may think of. White was chosen over black in this instance as we will be setting up a projector screen to make the room into a mini theater. If the blind is up, our screen is sheer enough the black may bleed through to affect the color of what we are viewing. Bonus overall: this will keep out the summer heat and UV rays to aid in lowering our electric bill. A few more instructions along with some best practices would push this on its way to a five star rating. ... show more

My need was to black out a large window when our projector is in use during the day. For that this did work at blocking out the side light strips that had been getting past the light blocking blind this window already had. The window consisted of two sliding side panels and I had hopped to cover them with three separate strips attached to the frame around the glass, but I gave up on that for the velcro strips don't seal it tight enough to prevent light leaks. Fortunately the generous sheet was still large enough to cover my entire window connected to the header of the shade and overlap the sides by several inches. Since it arrived folded it had lots of creases which remained even after hanging for a day. It has the appearance of a thick plastic drop cloth, and a somewhat plastic smell to it that took a full day to air out. It is certainly not as smooth as the advertised pictures show. Perhaps it could be cool ironed or smoothed to achieve that, but I was concerned that might melt it, nor did I want to spend time doing that. Had it arrived rolled (unwrinkled), or without a smell that required time to air out I would have given it a full 5 star. Though at some point I will likely spend more and buy heavier blackout blinds that can slide on a top pole when not needed. This product is best purchase as something quick, cheap and for leaving permanently in place where appearance is not important. ... show more

My experience with these blackout shades has been quite positive. They effectively block out light despite its abnormal internal appearance . Installation was relatively straightforward, and maintain well. While they've greatly improved my sleep quality, and allowed a better experience of movie nights with my girlfriend, the gap that prevents from being a 5 star is how the design was established for the internal appearance of the product. ... show more

I got this to help with the darkness of my room. I like it really dark at night (with the time changes and me going to bed early). This helped. It covered my whole double window in the bedroom. Installation was another matter. (It could be operator error as well). My dad and I had to work together to get everything lined up properly. It took about 45 minutes to completely install. First time I seen these types of Blackout Window Shades. so much easier to install and curtains or typical window blinds. No drilling here. Just stick to wall, then pull tight on one corner, then cut to size. Unlike curtains, this seals out all light making your room black. Nice to watch tv with no sunlight glare on the screen. It seems like it maybe insulated as well, it is not as hot around the windows as the windows I still have blackout curtains on. With 157" x 57" gave me enough material for 2 large windows. [Summery:] All in all I am very happy. I am comfortable with the 5 stars. I have no problem recommending this or the seller. Where has this been all my life?! This blackout shade is a life-saver. First, when I opened it up, I was REALLY surprised as to just how huge it is. Over 9 feet by over 4 feet. It's a little tricky to get it undone. Make sure you cut it on a flat surface to get an even line. It comes with velcro and clear sticky tabs for adhering it. The most important thing.. IT KEEPS ALL LIGHT OUT! So easy to use. Easy to put up. Easy to take down. You can't ask for an easier way to keep the sun out. It comes with a handy little bag too.
