  • It gets the job done!
Color: Black
I bought the device on the good faith of another reviewer, @lioncoolman, using it as a Dual Boot solution for his Steam Deck to use Windows while keeping SteamOS on the internal drive. It sounded like a nice high-speed and light-weight method to plug and play Windows on my Steam Deck compared to my other options, with the only caveat being that I'd be tethered to a power source (because of USB C power draw). So I collected everything I needed to copy lioncoolman's setup; the Multiport Adapter; a Deck Mate so it could easily attach and detach from the back of the Deck; and I bought the highest read/write speed SATA M.2 I could find on Amazon. After a few hours of work, I got it all setup and working with great performance after a few driver downloads for the Deck and the SSD! I've been using this device for around 2 weeks at this point. The only pet peeve I have is the device temps, as it gets quite a bit hot when under high loads or gaming, but ultimately is not an issue because of the way the Deck Mate props the device in place. 5/5 it does everything I needed it to. ... show more

  • Versatile and Innovative Design
Color: Black
I've developed a real affinity for SATECHI products and this one is my favorite already. I bought it and added a TEAMGROUP MS30 2TB SSD and it works beautifully. The case is especially well-crafted and, even though I worried about "tool-less" cover on the SSD slot, it has held in place on my travels thus far. Naturally, I'd like more ports, but I wouldn't want it to be any larger. The power distribution is a little low for what I need, but I knew that when I bought it and is not an issue. The case gets warm to the touch but, even with heavy use, it has never gotten hot. I use it primarily with a MacBook Pro M1, 16-inch but I have moved it between several other computers with no issue. Performance is fast, the unit is rugged and I love the design. The only thing I might complain about is the fixed (permanently-attached) USB-C cable. I really like the ribbon cable that inserts into SATECHI's USB ON-THE-GO MULTIPORT ADAPTER. But I would certainly recommend the Hybrid given all of the other positives it brings. ... show more

  • Great combo of convenient storage and useful ports

The only thing I wish this had was a SD card reader, then it would be the only dongle I use.

  • Device overheats with SSD
Color: Space Gray
When I included an SSD, the device overheated so much that I could not touch it and had to uninstall it. I therefore intend to return it. A. T. Mann

  • Well built, easy install
Color: Space Gray
I have a few docks for my MacBook Air. This one adds more utility than the others when on the road because I can put a sizable (1TB in my case) SSD in it and yet take up no more room than a normal dock by itself. I can do video edits of my vacation GoPro videos without having to drag along a separate hard drive of some sort. Better yet, I don't end up with a nest of extra cables in my hotel room or campsite. This dock runs the I/O at USB 3 speeds for me and is very solidly built. The metal seems to make it conduct the heat out very well, although I did not do a studious test of this. It just seems like it gets up to comfortably warm and stays there. Good unit ... show more

  • Overpriced but the best multiport adapter I have used
Color: Black
This is a superb piece of engineering and I would have given it five stars had it been more reasonably priced. To fully test it, I installed a Samsung 1TB V-NAND SSD (860 EVO SATA M.2). The read/write speeds to my 16" Macbook pro with an i9 processor were exceptional (480 MB/s read, 526 MB/s write). To my surprise, this adapter was not quite as fast when connected to my M1 Macbook air (375 and 420, read and write MB/s). The HDMI interface worked perfectly and gave full color 4K output. The usb ports all behaved normally. One important issue, however, is overheating. When running the speed tests, or outputing high resolution HDMI, this thing gets hot. It is not too hot to touch, but it does get extremely warm. I worry about how this might effect long term performance. Given that this adapter does not come with any memory installed, it is overpriced. But I am very pleased with its performance, and appreciate its fast storage and interface capabilities. ... show more
