    • Potential fitment issue, and how to safely move/detach if needed
UPDATE: I deducted a star because I discovered a "fitment" issue that may be a problem for some. I have an iPhone 13 Pro in an Apple Leather MagSafe case. The iPhone 13 Pro has a prominent "camera bump", and therefore the case has a plastic "lip" around the camera cutout area that sticks up/out from the rest of the case. I noticed that when I have my phone resting on the MagSafe pad installed in this dock, that "lip" sticks out enough to touch the dock, and it prevents the phone from lying flat on the MagSafe pad. The MagSafe ring in the phone is simply very close to the camera, so there just isn't enough of a gap to accommodate the dock between that ring and the camera lip. The phone still charges, but not as fast. My wife's iPhone 13 mini in a Smartish Gripmunk case doesn't have this issue. I don't have a regular iPhone 13 to test with. Original review below. This product is very nicely made, and after you remove the plastic film on the bottom -- don't forget that! -- it definitely grips its surface well enough to keep your MagSafe charger from being picked up along with your phone. And in case it isn't obvious to anyone, in order to get the MagSafe charger into the dock properly, you do NOT just "press" the MagSafe charger upward into the dock cutout. You have to pass the MagSafe charger through the dock from the underside and all the way out through the top of it by rotating the MagSafe charger 90 degrees relative to the dock's cutout before sliding it through (i.e. when passing the MagSafe charger through the dock cutout, the edge of the MagSafe charger should pass through first and divide the dock cutout into two halves). Once you've done that, press the MagSafe charger DOWN into the dock's cutout from above, then get the MagSafe cable into the cable groove under the dock. And then in terms of unsticking the dock to move it elsewhere later, Satechi says this is possible without damaging anything, but neither their product page nor their included guide specified exactly how to do that. I discovered that the proper method is with lateral force. Basically, grip any side edge of the dock by your middle three fingers (maybe your pinky as well) and then pull the dock as if you were trying to drag it along the surface it's attached to. It will take a bit of strength, but it will come unstuck without damaging the surface or leaving residue, and it will still stick to another surface afterward. I would not recommend trying to pry it up (even if you could get a small pry tool underneath it), and trying trying to twist it on the table didn't seem to work either, which I tried because that's how you're supposed to release Blue-Tac, which I use as an excellent no-residue, no-damage fastener for other items.     • Far too lightweight
I like the design, a step-up from Stouchi’s MagSafe Charger Stand, which I purchased earlier this year. But whereas the previous charger was substantial, this one is far too lightweight for my taste. It gets pulled to the floor two or three times a week just making the bed when I place the down comforter on. I’ve decided to return it, which is too bad considering its cost. ... show more

Pretty useless since it’s so light it come up attached to the iPhone when you pick up your phone. Needs more weight.

This is a very simple product from Satechi, it’s designed to be a place to securely mount your MagSafe charging cable. The MagSafe charging cable is sold separately and costs $38ish and allows for faster, magnetic wireless charging at 15 watts instead of the 7.5 watts that you get from standard Qi charging. Even though MagSafe cable magnetically attaches to your iPhone 12 series (and probably 13 series too), it will still slide around on a tabletop because the other side is smooth aluminum alloy. This product from Satechi solves that problem. It is very well made and solid looking, it should outlast the MagSafe cable that you place inside of it. It is sticky on the bottom so that it will adhere to whatever you place it on, you could leave the plastic on the bottom if you wanted and it wouldn’t be secured to the surface of the table or desk (in case you wish to move it to a second location later on). ... show more

I only dropped a star because it's not advertised to work with the iPhone 13 -- but while it attaches, it keeps the phone up on the edge due to the camera protector on the iPhone 13 official leather case.

I put this on my dresser at the end of the bed, it looks nice and it’s functional, it holds the MagSafe charger in place when I pick up my phone. I think the price is on the high side, but you’re getting good quality and a high end look. I’m happy with it and might try to find a matching Apple Watch base. ... show more

    • OK, but that micro-suction will likely damage wood surfaces etc.
Satechi products are always a bit of a frustration for me, in many way. They're so close to good, but often don't quite work as well as they should. This dock for the Magsafe charger is much the same. It works fine, but a better design would have been just weighting this down rather than the tacky/sticky bottom, which, in my experience - has aways left an outline on wood surfaces after periods of time, so be careful on a desk. Overall, it works fine (I mean, it doesn't do a lot), but it's relying on a questionable adhesion method to do the job. 3 out of 5. OK. ... show more

Excellent quality item much better than the competition I recently purchased to replace another one I had found from another brand and I didn’t like it so I tried this one out and it’s much higher quality and it works really well with my phone which sits on my nightstand and I’m able to pull the phone off without having to use my fingers to detach from the base of the MagSafe charger ... show more
