  • Very impressed for use on my first tattoo
Size: 6 x 8 Inch
I've been nothing but impressed with my experience using Saniderm on my first tattoo. It was fairly easy to apply but upon my first try unwrapping a new piece myself, the wrong side of the adhesion came off instead of the paper and I had to throw that piece away. So be careful pulling it apart and make sure it's the right piece coming off. I will also say I wish I had measured it to fit the design before applying it. Looking at it as a sheet, I didn't think I needed to trim any off but as soon as I applied it to my arm, it was way too big and almost wrapped around my whole forearm. It was fine though, I fixed it by sticking the corners on counter and using scissors to trim it to size, leaving 1 inch between the edge of the Saniderm and the design, without much difficulty. And take Saniderm's advice, round your corners because they aren't very comfortable on the skin when pointed. First & Second Layer: My artist applied the first layer. It stayed on perfectly overnight and the edges weren't coming loose at all. I also had some ink underneath that I was worried about leaking but there was absolutely none. It stayed right where it rose out of the skin. And it was so light that I honestly didn't even feel like I was wearing anything. I removed this first layer after 24 hours in the shower under lukewarm water. The water did not cause it to come off prematurely, it only came off once I started pulling on the edge to remove it so it absolutely holds up. Still don't go swimming with it on though. The water definitely helped ease it off once I was pulling on it though and it didn't hurt at all, which I'm sure it would if I attempted it dry. I cleaned it with unscented antibacterial soap, pat dried it and gave it about 5 minutes to breathe and air dry for good measure. You want your skin to be completely dry before applying Saniderm so it doesn't mess up the adhesion or trap unnecessary liquid underneath. This is when I learned, as I mentioned above, to measure your Saniderm beforehand. It also takes a bit of focus to apply "nicely". My first time applying it here, I trapped a few tiny air pockets. They're pretty much harmless but you can *gently* push them to the sides to get them out. Second & Third Layer: I kept my second layer on for 6 days. It stung a little bit when I built up a light sweat outside (wearing long sleeves in warm weather to keep it protected from the sun sucks lol) but that makes sense since it's technically a bunch of micro open wounds. The sweat made the edges of Saniderm a tiny bit itchy, but I only noticed it if I was focusing on it and looking for the feeling. As soon as I cooled off, it didn't take it long to go away. The sweat did not make the edges start to peel. It was still holding up perfectly. I removed and cared for it the same way that I did the first layer. Water, soap, dry, Hustle Butter, Saniderm. Third Layer & Following Days: I also kept the third layer on for 6 days and removed it the same as the other layers. I only experienced about 3 days so far (as in since day 1 of having my tattoo) of very minor itchiness from the tattoo. It also hasn't been peeling and very very minimal scabbing to the point it's nearly impossible to see unless you get extremely close to look at the tattoo. Since this is my first tattoo and first experience with Saniderm, I can't say whether Saniderm is to thank for the minimal discomfort and "pretty healing" or not. But I definitely think it's playing a part. Within 24 hours after my third and final piece of Saniderm was removed and not replaced with another piece, I noticed very minimal peeling. And the next two days (including today while writing this review) slightly more but still very minimal peeling and scabbing. In pictures, it's difficult to even notice unless it's an extreme close up. As I said above, since this is my first tattoo aftercare experience, I don't know if it's a coincidence that it's starting to peel now that I'm not wearing Saniderm or if the Saniderm was preventing it from getting to the peeling stage. My next tattoo I might experiment and apply a fourth piece just to see if the peeling is delayed or if it starts around this time of the healing process regardless of whether I'm wearing Saniderm or not. I'm keeping my skin nice and hydrated and moisturized and there's still no itching at all. So overall, 10/10. I'm very very satisfied and I will 100% be purchasing Saniderm for all of my future work. It held up very well, protected my fresh ink from friction, protected my sheets and clothes from leakage, and kept the hydration in and the tattoo clean while still allowing oxygen exchange so it could breathe. I tried to take consistent pictures every day specifically for this review because looking for appropriate aftercare products was slightly overwhelming as a someone about to get their first ink. There's so many opinions out there, often with photos only from the beginning or the end of the process and I always wanted to see the middle of the process too. So I hope anyone out there looking for the right product for themselves finds this helpful! :) ... show more

  • Do not hesitate - this is the way you want to heal.
Review update: many years and many, many more Saniderm-protected tattoos later: use this, you won't regret it. This is the only way I will ever heal tattoos for the rest of my life. That said, here's the original review: --- First, let me start by saying that I never write reviews. That's how strongly I feel about how well this works. This review will probably seem astroturf-y and overwhelmingly positive, but I assure you that it's genuine. For a little background: when I decided to try this, I already had a full sleeve on one arm, half sleeve on another, two legs from the knee down, and one large piece covering the bottom of my other forearm. These pieces span over 15 years of my life. I was no stranger to trying different methods of healing. I've literally tried them all: dry healing. Tattoo Goo. A+D. Aquaphor. Myriad other one-off "tattoo-centric" healing products. I have dry skin, and each of these methods lead to more flakiness and scabbing than I would prefer, and occasional frustrating color dropouts. Not to mention discomfort and ruined sheets. Recently I saw a friend that used this product and figured I'd give it a try because it looked interesting. I ordered a roll and squirreled it away for the next session. So, Saturday I went in and got the other side of my forearm done - about a 10"x5" piece that took about three hours. After it was done, we did the usual wrap with saran wrap and a light coating of vaseline. Later, I went home and waited with this wrap for about 3-4 hours as I usually do. That's where the fun began: I traced an outline of my piece on the saran wrap, then used that as my template to cut the Saniderm. I washed off the coating and cleaned everything well with antibacterial soap, then it was time to get to applying this. Getting it laid out with one hand was slightly unwieldy, as the clear top backing makes wrapping it around elbows and curves a little awkward - but once that comes off, it's easy to flatten and stretch things as need be. Within five minutes, I had a water-tight wrap. I was impressed. There were a couple places I goofed, but I was able to just cut another piece and easily make a compound bandage. So, the first night: usually I have to resort to ice and loosely wrapping a towel so I don't ruin yet another expensive set of sheets... not this time! In fact, I can't explain it, but having this wrap actually made the tattoo hurt less to the point that I kind of forgot that I had it done. While I'd normally be tossing and turning trying to stay comfortable, I had none of that this time. Amazing. So after the first day, on Sunday night, I could see all that ink and plasma that drains off, but the Saniderm kept it all contained and I was able to shower normally, which is a huge relief. Nothing ever leaked. (always leave about a 1" border around your piece!) Now, given that I didn't want to look at all of that, and based on the recommendations of the manufacturer, on Sunday night I pulled the first bandage and did a quick cleaning. Some say you can skip this step, but I had bought a whole roll and figured what the hell. Taking it off was far easier than I had read: the key is to warm it up under a tap for a minute to loosen the adhesive, get one edge up by pulling the bandage straight forward on the skin (to stretch it) then pulling it back over itself like you're unrolling a sock. DO NOT LIFT IT UP. If the bandage is lifted more than an eighth inch, of course it's going to hurt. Doing this, I was able to pull the first bandage in seconds. Again, a quick rinse with antibacterial soap, and I applied another bandage. (luckily I saved that template) I wore this one for three days until Wednesday night, for a total of four days with two bandages. Again, removing the second bandage was super easy. The result? Nothing short of amazing. While I would normally have peeled twice by now and had some significant dry spots/scabbing, my tattoo looks like it was just applied. As soon as I took the final Saniderm off, it appeared healed, and a simple and quick sunburn-style peeling (the kind I'd usually get on my second or third peel) occurred. I've applied unscented lotion for the last day and it's pretty much done. I honestly can't believe it - I wish I could go back and re-do all the other ones I've had. It's that good. So. In summary, it's safe to say that I will never heal any other way. Saniderm is amazing. Buy it, you won't regret it. Pros: - Reasonably easy to apply and remove - Sanitary and convenient: apply it once, and your tattoo is safe - you can shower, and you won't ruin clothes/sheets. It's watertight and still breathable. - Comfortable: I honestly would forget that it was on. - Aesthetic: this is the most specious of ratings, but it was nice to be able to show the piece without having to say "oh, ignore that flaky gross skin, it'll look better once it heals..." Most people thought I just had saran wrap on it. (which lead to a couple of "don't do that, this is a special product!" conversations) - So much more... Cons: Honestly, none. Maybe it's a bit expensive for some people, but hey, you just dropped a couple hundred bucks on a tattoo that's going to last forever - why not take care of it? ... show more

  • YOU NEED THIS!
Size: 10.2 in X 2 yd Roll (Personal Size)
I purchased this tattoo aftercare bandage to cover my new thigh tattoo. The tattoo artist that completed the piece doesn't use the aftercare bandage but I am happy that I can purchase my own. I have had previous tattoo artist use the bandage aftercare and it was amazing how much my tattoo healed while being able to wear it for seven days. I am not sure if this is the same brand that has been on my body before but it also is allowed to be worn for seven days without having to change or worrying about it being ruined in the shower. I will continue to use this product, as well as my husband is able to use it for his new tattoos and prevent them from getting dirty while working in crawlspaces and attics everyday. ... show more

  • Makes healing a breeze
Size: 10.2 in X 2 yd Roll (Personal Size)
First time using this stuff to heal a tattoo and it definitely won’t be the last. It’s a little tricky to apply to a knee but not impossible. I put the first one on about 2 hours after the tattoo was finished and left it on for about 6 hours. It filled up with some plasma so I changed it out a little early. If the next one doesn’t fill up I’ll leave it on for 5 days. This makes it a lot easier to sleep, but be aware that the outside of the bandage is very tacky and will grip the sheets. ... show more
