When I used it the way the directions gave, the top bar was only about 4 inches above the mattress. Once I looked at the Bed Rail next to the bed I realized that if I moved the bar that goes under the mattress to the bottom part of the legs I could gain 6 to 8 inches of height, raising the guard rail well above the mattress as is shown in the picture. Now my wife has lots of protection to keep her from falling out of bed. After reading a lot of the negative reviews I realized that the reviews that referred to the bed rail would only fit on one side of the bed did not realize that all you need to do is take the part that fits under the bed and reverse to, it then will fit on the other side of the bed, very easy but not intuitive. The instructions need to be a lot clearer on fitting the rail to either side of the bed. Another issue referred to putting the under the mattress part. You need to make sure that you put these pieces together exactly as the instructions indicate our it will not fit onto the legs. All in all the only issue is what I discussed at the start of my review related on how to raise the bed rail above even the largest mattress, which the instructions do not show. I generally don't write reviews on products. But I have to write this because I bought for my 84 old mom started falling from the bed during sleep. A good bed with side rails cost a ton of money. When I was researching around for a Bed Rail for Elderly which can attach to an existing bed/frame this come to my attention. 1) This has adjustable Handbard. 2) Very Sturdy because it has 2 free height adjustable legs so it won't flex while my mom trying to getup from the bed and using the rail as support. (THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT for this kind of addon device) . 3) Also because of 2 above it stays in place. 4) Now I can sleep well without worrying about my mom. ... show more

I’m giving it 4 stars even though I returned it. I thought it was a great bed rail. I especially liked that it folded down when not in use. The problem I had was after assembling it I measured the distance from the part that goes under the mattress to the top of the bed rail it was 15 inches. My mattress is also 15 inches. So it was of no use to me. I tried to find a customer service number for the company, but couldn’t find it. I was hoping they might have some sort of an extension kit. I think it’s a good bed rail if your mattress is not too thick. ... show more

After multiple looks at the wide selection of bed rails, we picked this for our Granny who has Parkinson's disease and often falls out of bed even with a dining chair next to the top of the bed. She is now content; doesn't complain about being trapped in. No falls........so far so good!

I may be at fault, but the actual rail portion ends up nearly level with my Mother’s premium mattress. If details are listed in the description be aware. Her mattress is 12” thick and the very top of the rail handle is only a mere 1/2” to 1” higher. Also, a suggestion to who ever creates the assembly materials: pretend you never saw the device you are going to create assembly instructions for. Clearly you know the pieces and the specific orientation it needs to be in when you insert fasteners etc, but the end user doesn’t. Conveniently, this isn’t a car with 70k parts, but I think you can avoid 30% of the calls to customer support if you spent a little more time really recognizing the limitations of your assembly process. ... show more

I love thst you can adjust the hand rail to extend it out more and you can change the direction of the top portion allowing you to use the rail on left ir right side of your bed. I only wish the top portion were a little taller. I have a 16" deep temperpedic mattress with mechanical head and foot rest and it would be nice if the top part of the rail were about 3" - 4" taller ... show more

Upon communications from the Seller through Amazon’s mail system the Seller has agreed to refund and I offered to update my review. As is, I still cannot recommend this product. Though made of apparently quality material (compared to others I’ve tried) there was and likely still is a manufacturing problem (missing critical drill holes). If this issue has since been resolved, or you are handy with a drill (will need a drill bit for metal) and willing to drill two holes then this may be an acceptable purchase for you. As well, I notice the cost has, at least temporarily, been significantly reduced. I appreciate the Seller’s willingness to help resolve my specific issue, and being proactive on their support. Increasing my rating two stars for this willingness. Original review: This has to be one of the worst purchases I’ve ever made on Amazon. First it is way overpriced for what you get. I suspected this but decided to give it a try anyway. Finding a sturdy, well made product for this purpose is difficult to find. It still is. It’s not nearly as easy to put together as others have mentioned, or as it should be. With the pieces laid out before you it’s not very intuitive on how to assemble. It appears to be over engineered for its purpose, yet still not well designed. The worst part: it does not work and is DANGEROUS to use. As others have mentioned, some required drill holes are missing which if properly bolted would keep the grip handle from coming apart when you attempt to use it. This isn’t apparent until after you have assembled it. Being unable to anchor the grip handle down with bolts it will come completely apart with very slight upward pressure. As well, there is a lot of wobbly give when gripping the handle to also be unsafe to use. The failure of the manufacturer of this product to properly correct this problem, which has been previously reported in reviews, is just simply inexcusable. My return window passed so getting my money back is unlikely. But no one else should buy this overpriced and improperly manufactured product. The manufacturer/seller should recall and replace all units sold at their own cost and effort. ... show more
