  • Terrible write performace - Do not buy if you work with large files.
Size: 64GB Style: Drive
Usually love SanDisk products - I shoot everything on Sandisk SD cards. However, this flash drive is incredibly one-sided. When files are already on it, it reads them with great speeds (150MBps). If you are copying files to a 3.1 capable device, it is great in that regard. However, flash drives are not meant to only have a file on them that will only be read. Half the point is to write files to them, to be moved somewhere else, and in that regard this product falls flat. When I first got this drive I ran a test, backing up approx. 6GB of 1080p AVCHD video to multiple locations: this drive, a 1TB USB 3.0 external hard drive, and a cheap ADATA 32GB USB 3.0 flash drive. The files were being copied from an NVMe M.2 SSD, so there was no bottlenecking from that, and I had the USB-A side plugged into a USB 3.1 compatible port on my motherboard (and later repeated, using the USB-C side on a laptop, also with an M.2 ssd inside, getting the same performance). This drive spiked to around 90MBps write for a few seconds, then fell to a painfully slow average of 20Mbps. In the same test, the ADATA USB 3.0 flash drive wrote at a consistent ~50MBps, and the USB 3.0 external hard drive wrote at ~90Mbps. For small files this won't make much of a difference, but for anything over 500MB, prepare to extend your wait times significantly. For this drive to write over two times slower than a cheap USB 3.0 flash drive is insane. The only time you get USB 3.1 speeds is reading, which it excels at, but to be able to read something from it in the first place, you first have to write onto it at incredibly slow speeds. This makes it a very niche drive, good only for writing short bursts of files, where you wouldn't need USB 3.1 speeds to begin with. If this were a low capacity drive that would make sense, but given this can go up to 128GB it will appeal to people who want to copy large files at USB 3.1 speeds like myself, and end up being a major disappointment when it takes 5+ minutes to copy a couple gigs of video. The only scenario in which this makes sense is copying files from a smartphone, but at that point, the phone comes with a USB-C cable to charge it, which would work just as well if not faster to copy files from. Cannot recommend this for any reasonable scenario. ... show more

  • Real USB 3 speeds. Compatible with both C and A ports.
Size: 128GB Style: Drive
While some complain about speeds, I am rather impressed with this drive. It really shines where older USB 2 drives utterly fail. That is when copying/moving many small files. It easily copies many hundreds of tiny files in seconds rather than twenty minutes on an old USB 2. drive I have. Why is it so much faster? I honestly do not know. But it manages 150 MB per second READ speed on single large files. Write speed is a respectable 20 MB per second SUSTAINED for the whole time. (It starts higher, but never slows to less than 20 MB per second. Please do not misunderstand. Maximum speed is nice, but sustained speed over a long write is the real test of how fast a drive is. Does it get hot? Yes it does. But not nearly hot enough to burn me. And certainly safe to the drive itself. Getting hot probably does decrease the life of the drive. But I do not expect it to last a decade. And if you do, please spend some time thinking about that. A decade ago the biggest flash drive you could get was around 128 MEGABYTES. This is one thousand times that size. I really hope this drive is vastly obsolete by then. To other reviewers: Please do not say the drive is burning hot. That is an opinion. While I appreciate the information, it would be nicer to hear what actual temperature both the drive, and the ambient port of the computer reaches. Surely some of you have one of those handy IR thermometers? Sadly I do not. Anyway, thanks for reading. ... show more

  • Gets really hot!
Size: 128GB Style: Drive
The drive transfers fast and does what I expected it to, however I did not expect the drive to heat up to 130F under heavy transfer. The first thing I do with my thumb drives is encrypt them and on a 128GB drive that takes a little while so I would have expected it to be warm by the end. This thing read 120-130 Degrees from a few min into the encryption till the end, so hot it kinda burns you to touch it. Looking at reviews on other Scan Disk flash drives this seems to be a common problem that they want to ignore always responding to reviews like this saying that "SanDisk drives comply with industry specific standards and are tested to remain in acceptable temperature ranges under normal operating conditions in host and USB flash drive devices. SanDisk drives are tested to comply to the safety standards in "Safety of Information Technology Equipment, IEC 60950-1", where the ambient temperature range is between 0°C and 35°C." Which is clearly a lie since there are a lot of people who complain about this and they always seem to have he same response and my house is no 90F right now. I have a couple more weeks to decide if I am going to return this to amazon and get something else, not sure what I am going to do but felt people should know. ... show more

  • Great for going back and forth between devices
Size: 128GB Style: Drive
The media could not be loaded. This has been a life saver for me. I can now easy move files back and forth between my MacBook Air and my windows desktop. I can edit documents on one then move to the other to edit documents (I do have NTFS which helps with that but the drive came with software on it for that as well). It is also small enough that it fits into the other USB Type C port on my MacBook Air when the computer is plugged in. I have had no issues with transferring documents to this drive or getting them off the drive. The speed seems fine for both uploading and downloading, but I primarily using documents (word, pdf, etc..). If you need to go back and forth between devices that have two different types of input, this may be your answer! ... show more

  • 18MBps maximum writing speed, but average around 11mbps...My microSD is faster
Size: 256GB Style: Drive
First impressions using with USB C to Samsung Galaxy book ..4mbps-18mbps writing speed (SMALL FILES). Not very happy. Also not sure if product is real SanDisk, as there is a paper sticker covering original barcode which is a completely different number. So far not impressed.. Yet to see if USB 3.1 performs any better ... show more
