  • Working great as boot drives in my MSI GS66
Capacity: 4TB Style: P3
I have two 4TB P3 SSDs in my MSI GS66, each of which is acting as a boot drive --- one for Windows 11, one for Linux Mint. Been a bit over a year now, each one is about half full, and I have not had any issues with either drive. Not the absolute fastest SSDs, but plenty fast for my usecases which include light video editing, heavy software development (IDE open on host, multiple guest VMs running at once, etc), and light gaming. ... show more

  • Reliable solid state drive
Capacity: 500GB Style: P3
I have a long history of adding disk drives to various computers. Back in the 80's, desktop computers came with disk drives that are bulky by today's standards. They were noisey , slow and had a low capacity measured in megabytes. Todays solid state drives (SSDs) are tiny (the size of a stick of chewing gum), quiet, much faster, with capacities mesured in terabytes. You would think that the reliability of these drives with no moving parts would be much higher than the old disks, but the Mean Time Between Failures (MTBT) is not significantly higher. I have a Lenovo laptop computer that died because the SSD just stopped functioning. So I ordered one of these Crucial SSDs. The hardest part of replacing the original drive was removing all 10 screws on the bottom of the laptop case and then separating the bottom of the case from the top. The next step was unplugging the tiny wires that connect to the integrated battery. The next step was more challenging than I anticipated - finding the original SSD. It was half the physical size of the replacement Cricial SSD, so I initially did not recognize it. Once I did, removing the old SSD and slipping in the new one was simple. The final step was reloading the OS. Fortunately, Microsoft has a web page that supports downloading a bootable image onto a USB drive (from another comkputer). Rebuilding the new OS image was simple, but time consuming. The Cricial product: Crucial is a name I recognize from decades of upgrading PCs, so I have confidence it will last longer then the original SSD in my Lenovo laptop. So far, the new Crucial SSD is performing well. ... show more
