Neighbor wanted his laptop to run faster - only option was to change from his 2.5 SSD to this type. No formatting or partition or any changes to BIOS needed. System was a Dell Inspiron 3420. I purchased this drive along with the SSK Aluminum M.2 NVME SATA SSD Enclosure Adapter and the Geekworm X1001 PCIe to M.2 HAT Key-M NVMe SSD PIP PCIe Peripheral Board to add 500GB to my Raspberry Pi 5 and not use the SD card. I bought the enclosure adapter to set the drive up initially, then mounted the drive to the HAT and mounted it on the Pi.
