My son built me a high end desktop computer for father's day years ago. We keep upgrading it and adding on as the technology and memory demands change. My regular hard drive with moving parts was one of the last things to change. It was still working but it was bound to fail sooner or later. We got this and installed. The 8TB WD Black SN850X is just what you would expect from the SN850X series. TLC NAND flash and DRAM give optimal performance, especially good for random and sustained writes. It works well, uses an acceptable amount of power and the 8TB capacity is one of the few or only that is not using the E18 microcontroller (it uses a customized WD/Sandisk). Obviously an 8TB M.2 TLC SSD with DRAM has NAND flash chips on both sides, so consider that in your build. My sole criticism is that they do not include a screw, necessitating an additional $7 for a bag of screws.
