  • Makes photo backups to Android devices possible
Size: 128GB
I bought this little drive after several other attempts at backing up my photos using an Android tablet for a trip I was taking. The tablet didn't have a lot of storage space or memory, so I wanted to back up the pictures to somewhere else. One can also drop, lose or have one's camera stolen while on a trip too. I was unable to get the tablet to recognize several different flash drives I purchased. Then I bought a portable hard drive that also wasn't acknowledged. Then I read about this little SanDisk device. After downloading the SanDisk Memory Zone app onto the tablet, the SanDisk flash drive was immediately recognized and opens up a system where your entire tablet contents can be transferred around inside the tablet, or to the SanDisk flash drive itself. It made copying or moving files pretty easy. It hung up on several occasions but I am blaming that on my primitive tablet and the huge amount of material I was attempting to move all in one large file. I also had problems with losing some image files after downloading them from my camera, but I am also blaming it on the tablet which had little memory or hard drive space. After searching amongst all my backed up files, I found them on the SanDisk flash drive. I like the fact I can have a backup hundreds of gigabytes of photos on a a teeny tiny flash drive that doesn't take up a lot of space. I didn't need to carry a backup hard drive with me on my trip either. I can now move some of the photos I want to share straight to my cellphone or laptop. I wish the program inside the SanDisk flash and Memory Zone app worked on my desktop because it makes moving large files faster and easier. Perhaps they could develop something like that in the future. Warning: I had to attach the SanDisk drive to a lanyard to keep from losing it it was so tiny. Perhaps other users might be less likely to lose things as I am, but it would be very easy to lose this out of one's pocket or purse without something to keep it grounded. The way the two different connectors slide could have been easier to operate, but having both a standard USB and micro-USB/OTG connector built into it was worth the inconvenience. ... show more

  • Read the fine print, **130MB/s READ speeds, write speeds are lower
Size: 128GB
If you noticed the picture of the packaging, there are two asterisks aka a catch. On the back of the packaging it reads: **Reads speeds from drive to computer up to 150MB/s. Write speeds lower and varies by capacity. USB 3.0 port required. Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending upon host device. This isn't an issue for me as one cannot expect every device to perform as advertised. There will always be a limiting variable preventing you from ever reaching max advertised speeds. People need to understand this. Your old Galaxy S3 micro USB port (for example) will not push this drive to its limit. Onto the write/read speed test using H2testw. Using this drive on a USB 3.0 port and H2testw I was able to reach a peak of ~55MB/s write speeds at the start of the test. However that didn't last long and the drive steadily slowed down to 27.9MB/s 10min into the write test. At 1 hour, 25.7MB/s. When verifying the written data the drive peaked at 141MB/s. By the end of the test the drive stabilised at 103MB/s. I believe the drops are caused by thermal throttling of the drive, as it did it hot to the touch during testing. Please note, this isn't real world performance. H2testw is writing very large files, one at a time. Transferring photos will not reach these speeds as they are small files, the transfer speed will peak then drop back to zero before peaking at the next file. Transferring videos is similar to the test, as they are large files where the drive can ramp up to it's max possible speed. Again, depending on the host device and many other variables. H2testw is a free Windows utility that verifies the true capacity of the drive by writing "dummy files"; writing until the drive is full or "full". Then the utility reads them to verify the files, ideally the verify will complete without error. If it ends with an error it will show at what amount it ended. For example, if it ended at around 16GB but you purchased a 128GB; this simply means you received a counterfeit drive and should return the drive. If the test ended on an obscure number, the drive is faulty and needs replacing. The drive I received passed with a final capacity of ~117GB for the 128GB model. This is normal as some space is taken up by the MBR, the "library" of the drive where all your files locations are kept. This is how the host device knows what goes where, what is empty and what is not. There are two files already on the drive, a PDF manual and a APK file of SanDisks app for Android. I don't know why they bother including the APK as Android users would have to enable "Install from unknown sources" in their device settings. Just search for the app in the Play Store if enabling this makes your weary, although you can simply disable it right after you install the APK. But again, there's no point in the first place as the included app is probably outdated and will be updated by the Play Store soon after. ... show more

I use it for music in my old truck. Plug into the front of stereo and hardly noticeable. Lots of memory. I can download lots of stuff and use it in my Samsung phone too.

  • Small but not tiny
Size: 128GB
I really like the size of this thumb drive. To me it is the perfect size, about the tip of your thumb. The storage capacity is plenty for what I need, and it is big enough not to get lost but small enough not to take up space. It could easily fit on a keychain. Because it slides into the case I don't worry about it getting busted. Only thing I don't like is occasionally when using it, it will get pushed back into the case when plugging it into the computer. Overall though just what I needed. ... show more
