Features

  • TS101 uses DC and PD dual power input. The power range of the DC5525 interface has been extended to DC 9-24V (up to 65W). A USB-C interface replaces the original Micro USB interface, which serves for firmware upgrades, and a standard PD power input of up to 45W.
  • The TS101 Soldering Iron embeds a smart processor chip to accurately control temperature and monitor the soldering iron tip. It also has an automatic sleep mode and an automatic overheat warning.
  • The newly added "Boost" heating function can quickly heat up in a short time to meet the welding needs of special scenes. Also, the temperature is displayed on the OLED screen, which can be accurately and easily adjusted from 122F to 752F (50C to 400C).
  • TS101 controller has a sharp and tough overall appearance and uses a larger 128*32 pixel OLED screen to display more heating data.
  • TS101 and TS100 use the same soldering iron tips, so your existing TS100 soldering tips can continue to be used for this upgrade version of iron.

  • Very impressive tool!
Wow. I had been wanting a portable DC powered iron for field repairs for some time and heard good things about these...but was hesitant to spend the money. But with a $50 amazon gift card burning a hole in my pocket I decided to give it a try. Wish I had when I first heard about these! The problem was I saw the USB port and the initial product listings I saw for these irons made it sound like they could be powered off USB so I assumed they were a joke. Turns out the USB port is just there for configuration and upgrading firmware. Power is provided through the 2.5mm connector and with the included 19v supply this thing has blown me away. My main soldering station is a Hakko 936 clone that I've had for over 10 years and quite enjoy using. But I suspect it's going to start gathering dust now as I'll be turning to this little guy for most tasks. It's not perfect. Lets just get that out of the way. The ergonomics aren't great. The shape of it just doesn't feel as good in my hand and there's nothing to keep your hand from slipping forwards into the "hot zone". Thankfully the metal end closest to the plastic stays cool so even if you do slip you've got an inch or so to go before burning yourself. Even so I'm thinking about making a 3D printed grip to slide over the body just to make it a bit more comfortable to work with. Also, as almost every other review has noted the cord on the included 18v supply is a bit short. Thankfully I have extension cords near my bench and in the field I'll be running it off a lipo and can make the cord for that as long as I want. But it's a negative worth noting. I've only had mine a few hours so I can't say anything about longevity of the power supply at this time. As for soldering performance. I opted for the PR-BC2 tip as I tend to prefer a chisel over a conical. It's not quite the chisel shape I'd prefer and I'd like to see more tip options, but it's workable. I gave it a try on some XT60 connectors and it was able to heat the 14AWG wires faster than my 936 clone and it held it's temperature better while pumping heat into the connection. Next I tried a few small 22 and 18 awg connections and it worked spectacularly. I tried it on a few through hole components and again the performance was wonderful. I haven't tried any SMT's yet but it seems like it would still be doable if not a bit more difficult than with the slightly smaller chisel tip I'm used to. I may pick up the PR-B2 tip to try for those. I was also pleasantly surprised to find that Sain Smart included the required allen key (and two spare screws) for installing/removing the heater/tip. It would be nice if the tip could be changed without tools since with the heater/tip removed it's VERY compact and easy to travel with. There is also alternative firmware under development here: [...] flashing between that and the stock firmware was quick and easy - though I didn't really find the features of the alternative worth it at this time. I'm really looking forward to working with this iron more. It's not perfect, but the negatives don't seem major enough to justify four stars as overall it's exceeded my expectations. ... show more

  • Better than my 50w benchtop Weller. Heats up faster and performs better, lighter, more portable, and can run on batteries. GREAT
Style: TS100 Kit
Let me start by saying that I have previously been using a Weller WES51 soldering iron, but I needed something a little more portable for jobs on the go. The thing that has shocked me most about this SainSmart TS-100 soldering iron is the fact that it heats up FASTER than my Weller. The included power supply is generic, but more than adequate to rapidly shoot the temperature up to operating range. Mine was default set to 300C; after a bit of idle time, it drops the temp down to 200C to save your tip. The sensors inside detects when you grab it again and it's practically back up to 300C by the time you're even tinning the thing. It's VERY fast with the stock power supply. I recommend using eutectic (leaded) solder because it's super easy to work with. This particular product came with the PR-BC2 tip that has a flattened side for increased contact area. Amazon lists this same product with a standard tip as well if that's not what you're looking for. I soldered up a ton of RC LIPO balancing wire adapters with this thing, and it was perfect. The iron is exceptionally light. Click both buttons to get the thing in standby with no heat, and then just repress the labeled button to restart at your previously set heat setting. Adjusting the temp up and down is intuitive and fast. To me, the best feature about this product is the ability to use your own LIPO cells to run the iron. It should run on anything between 3S to 5S batteries, with 3S having the slowest heat-up time and 5S being the fastest. Room for improvement: I wish the power supply used thinner and lighter silicone wire. Even though the plug + power wire is reasonably sized, the iron is SO light by comparison that you can notice the weight of it. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I might actually use this thing over my bench top Weller for daily use. I cannot speak for the longevity yet, but it has made a great first impression over the past few days. Great iron for the money! ... show more

  • Great product, terrible power supply wrecks experience.
Style: TS100 Kit
I've had a TS-100 before, and it's probably one of the best soldering irons i've ever used. This is no exception. For the cost, it is a very compact and very powerful soldering iron. Being literally the same thing, when i broke the DC jack center pin out of my TS-100, i bought the Pro32. And while the soldering iron is just what i came to expect, the 3-star rating stems from the power supply. The supplied wall-wart style power supply puts off 2.1a at 19v, which in theory should be enough to run the iron. Instead what happens is the temperature bounces erratically after surpassing 200 degrees, and when set to 300 degrees, flies from the 250s to 400 in the worst case, and in the best case stabilizes after 25 seconds. When an adequate power supply is provided (i'm using a universal laptop power supply for now), it's flawless. It heats up in about 15 seconds and stabilizes the moment it hits 300. The size is perfect for on-the-go, and if you want to practice your handywork with a soldering iron, you can make adapters to this for battery packs, LiPo batteries, or your car to make this as portable as you, though from my experience, it isn't quite as instantaneous running at 12v. Aside from the charger, i would recommend this to anyone. The small size, high-performance and flexibility of this make a great soldering iron. But i'm giving it 3 stars because the power supply is inadequate to the point that it would probably have warranted a return if I hadn't had time on this soldering iron and extra power supplies lying around. EDIT- Sainsmart customer service does NOT mess around! Didnt even plan to file a claim. Was instead contacted out of the blue and they offered to send a replacement, which worked out of the box. Revised to a 5* on these grounds. Don't hesitate to contact them! ... show more
