I had my hearing checked last week. No, I really did! The audiologist says my hearing is PERFECT. So I'm not deaf. I want to get that established first. This could, in my opinion, be a little louder. It's loud. It is, but really not super startling loud. Because honestly, this is more likely going to save someone because of the "scare the bad guy away" factor, than the "alert a good samaratin into saving yo ass" factor. The pitch is odd. It's very high pitched, which isn't so nerve rattling to me. Maybe that's just my opinion. It's really a great product at a good price. It's very unlikely that you will set it off by mistake. You actually need to grab it and pull significantly to set it off. Putting the pin back in is easy. Pros: Simple My eight year old uses it Blends in nicely on a keychain Easy to stop Easy to start Cons: Strange pitch, very high, dogs probably really hate it. Could be louder, should be so loud that it really, really startles someone, rattles their cage so to speak. This is just like, annoying loud. I feel like my house alarm is nerve rattling loud. You are forced to turn off the house alarm immediately, your mind just can't handle how loud it is. My house alarm is a deeper tone too, like you can feel it beeping in your head, deep tone. Not as loud as I thought it would be. Got one for my girlfriend and one for me just to mess around with. I think if you are getting raped in a small room this would be loud enough to get the attention of others in the room... But see, there's the problem, most rape or sexual abuse happens either in a large area, or in a closed off area where others can't hear. This device doesn't excel in these areas. The three or four times I set this off in my dorm, no one came to see if everything was ok. I do think this device has it's applications tho. For example. Attach to the inside of a purse and while walking through a bad part of town grip the keychain. If someone were to grab your purse the alarm would go off inside the purse. You might be able to see how this could be a good thing. I also think there are some non emergency uses that are good! My roomates alarm doesn't wake him up; I Pull the alarm. I want to deafen someone on Skype; I pull the alarm. You can imagine the uses. Anyways... Get this if you are in need of a non fail safe rape whistle, or just want a fun device to play with. If you really want to be safe in a dangerous environment get informed with self defense, and maybe carry pepper spray. ... show more

There are way louder ones. U need the 140 decibel alarm. I mean this Sabre one is okay. It's a noise, but not earth shattering. I found different brands that go 140 decibels and those ones are the ones that make me feel safe. SABRE is my go to for my pepper spray and I thought they would knock it out of the box with this personal alarm, but they did not. I think they may be focused on not negatively impacting your hearing as the 140 decibel other brand I purchased comes with warning that basically says your dog will hate u and if this alarm sounds too long u will go blind, bleed from your ears, and die...lol...okay, not all of that, but definitely risky if it sounds too long. Meanwhile, when Im trying to scare off a bad guy with bad intentions directed at me, the last thing I want is this little puny Sabre sound trying to protect my hearing and gently scare the bad guy away. No, I want pure hell directed at the bad guy. For that reason, I say skip Sabre for this product and search for 140 decibel personal alarms on Amazon of course 😉 ... show more

I had to test this out to see if it was really as loud or not as some reviewers had said. I nearly busted my own ear drums, this thing is loud when you are holding it close. of course if you throw it or get it taken away then it may not sound as loud but I definitely think it'll get the job done. I don't think the 300 feet is accurate, for some reason I don't see my neighbors that live 300' away from me coming to my rescue if this thing goes off, lol, but a next door neighbor or maybe a few houses down the block might be curious if this alarm is going off especially at night. the annoying part is that it sounds like a really loud and fast bird chirping. it's better than having nothing especially for the low price . ... show more

I got this originally to set an alarm if someone were to steal my coat. I work at a grocery store and had 2 coats stolen within the same week.. The problem though. It only has one good connector, which is the key chain part. I was going to mod it and put another keychain part on the other side, but I believe it had already ran through my washing machine (not sure, I haven't seen my space suit jacket for a month now). But I found a better and louder alarm on amazon. 2x the price of this $7. But well worth having double keychain to mount the body to something and mount the pin to my coat, and is very much more loud. ... show more

This SABRE Personal Alarm is very easy to use and is indeed quite loud. We gave one of these to my daughter after taking one of "Refuse to be a Victim" classes and feel much better that she has it on her when traveling in states where she isn't permitted to use other means of protection. The fob can be used as a key chain or attached to just about any strap on a backpack, purse, or even a belt-loop. The alarm is activated when the fob is pulled off the ring, which takes a determined effort. The resulting alarm is quite loud and very attention getting. This is a decent choice for anyone concerned about their safety, just be sure to test it periodically to insure you know how it works and that the batteries are still working. Highly Recommended! I was home alone for two weeks, and I wanted something to have with me just in case something were to go wrong. I'm pretty paranoid, so I wanted to get this alarm for some piece of mind. At first, I was afraid to trigger it because I didn't know how loud it would be or if it would even work. That being said, it pulls off easily and produces a loud, sharp noise. It's also easy to reattach the chain so the alarm stops. I keep it on my keys, which I either have on me or next to my nightstand table. I don't know what the two button-looking things are on it, but even though they're pointless I don't mind them. The design is simple, and it's small which is a plus. I do really like this product. I definitely advocate something that cannot be potentially used against the victim. My main issue with this is that when the device is pulled from the pin, the device can simply be nocked away from the person . It would be more useful if the noisemaking device had an attachment point so that it could be attached to a belt loop or something else to the body. That said I have brought it to my running group On several occasions to demonstrate. I am trying to get over my entitlement attitude. I was disappointed to discover that I needed TWO hands to make this work; one to hold the alarm steady and the other to pull out the pin. Now, most of us when out and about already have at least one hand in use, if only carrying a purse or tote bag. In an emergency, supposing you're grabbed from behind, the likelihood of having two hands free, is slim.What you want is something ready to use immediately, something that is in one hand with your finger hovering over the activator, be it a pull pin or a button. The sound of the alarm was fine. However, I'll add that you'll need two hands to make it stop also. So, if you had a "false alarm" or the danger passed and you needed to turn off the alarm before you lost your mind and your hearing, you couldn't do it immediately. In the comfort of my own home, I found restoring the pin to its slot a bit tricky. I have to think if I was out somewhere and panicked with my heart racing, it'd be even trickier. Not a good deterrent at all. The volume for the music on my phone is louder. It's a joke of a product, a waste of time, money, manufacturing, and resources. And it's potentially dangerous to advertise a lame product like this as a possible deterrent to assault or battery. In fact, I find that it's criminal. This item did not work when I first received it. I pulled the pin and silence . after pressing on the battery compartment it made a dull sound but nothing grand. After placing the pin back into the device and removing it beeped louder I checked batteries and tried to replace them. But this time the device made a strange buzzing sound even though the pin had NOT been pulled.. Amazon sent a replacement because of this issue. The second one actually worked immediately and is very loud. Its a good device if you get one that isn't faulty. There are no buttons on the item. U do have to pull fairly hard to remove the pin. ... show more
