  • It has taken care of me!
I think the Ryobi electric riding lawnmower is a wonderful purchase. I am 63 years old, I have not spilled out of this lawnmower. I have not had it break on me. It has taken care of 2 1/2 acres for a year with no problems. The only problem I had was running it with wet grass and tall grass. It drains the battery. All I had to do was clean out underneath when everything was dry clean it good and wait till the grass is dry and I wouldn’t have that problem again , if I wear the battery down a little bit, all I had to do was turn it off and wait a bit and it came back up. Also, I charged it every time I stored it back away. It has been my go, kart, my towing of garden supplies , and has been a wonderful tool of my nephews to spread gravel with his gravel spreader. This item may not be for everyone. Others might like a different product. I like Honda other people like Ford some like GMC not everybody’s going to like the same thing . I have my Honda since 2003 and it’s working beautifully because I take it in for servicing and I take care of it. Same thing with lawnmowers and anything else you own. If you love Ford and you’ve had yours since 1990 then you’re not going to trust a Honda. So please watch your comments. Yes I give mine a 5 star rating because it has given me everything that I’ve always wanted and can do with it. Especially now that I can’t walk or stand as much as I used to. Thank you for listening. • Boat anchor
Bought the 54” zero turn mid-June 2021. Early-June 2022, the blades starting shutting off with 40% remaining. I called Ryobi for service and they gave us our local service center. I left messages at the service center a few times and they never called back. Grass is getting out of control so I called Ryobi again. Now they tell me I’m a few days beyond our warranty. Yeah, because I’ve been trying to get your service center to return my call!! Ryobi offered the canned apology and invited me to trailer it up to a different service center further away to “see what they can do”. The service center fought for me and got the batteries replaced for free. Fall 2023 the batteries started doing the same thing. I figured I’d pick the fight back up over the winter. Fast forward to Spring 2024 and blades are shutting off again with 30% remaining and now 40%. I have to mow my yard in 2 separate charge cycles. Called Ryobi and they told me “the batteries only have a one (1) year warranty and are only warranted from your ORIGINAL purchase date in 2021”. Huh??? I even asked if they would credit me $1,000 and I would convert this mower from garbage lead acid batteries to lithium iron OR credit me $5,000 for my whole mower and I would spend $2,000 of my own money to buy Ryobi’s now upgraded Lithium Iron battery mower (call me stupid for offering to throw good money after bad). I got a solid “Nope” with no discussion. So now do I spend $1,000 for new set of lead acid or “deep cycle” batteries that will last… yep, 1 year? Spend $1,500 and numerous hours to convert to Lithium Iron? Or do I drag this worthless boat anchor to the recycle center to at least get $35 for the batteries and scrap metal? I’ve heard jokes about Ryobi using the public as testing grounds before rolling an item out under their Milwaukee brand. Affirmed. ... show more

  • Battery issues, lack of electric knowledgeable repair cars, weak against tall or slightly wet grass
Randomly stopped working when I went over some leaves, had to take it back to HD for repair. Then after about a year or slightly less the battery would only charge to 70% and now just 60% reducing how much I can get done. If I miss cutting my lawn for one week anytime of the year, two week growth it can't handle, blade chokes and will stop if I continue trying, slows down as if the grass was wet. Seat is very sensitive and I guess I don't weigh enough to not trigger the safety where it stops functioning, happens often on my non super level lawn. Bump can trigger this. I'm about 175lbs. For the price paid of unit plus bagger, I wish for this I went gas. Service centers don't know how to work on electric units. For the 60% non tall grass cutting, it works great. Throw it a curve ball and watch the expletives fly. ... show more

  • Great design and function... Batteries and control system are inadequate
I have used this Ryobi for the season. It is a GREAT mower and I like it a lot. It has plenty of towing power. It worked pretty well mowing through the summer. However, I could only do about half my 1.25 acres of moderate height grass without going below 50% power, which I am told is maximum safe draw down for lead acid batteries. I'm taking care to extend their life as much as I can. When I switched to mulching fall leaves, blades seem unreasonably under powered. Those electric motors should be much stronger than that, and they sound like they are. I believe it is a control system problem rather than insufficient power. Just a moderate amount of DRY leaves bogs it down and the blades shut down from what I assume is a circuit breaker in the control system. This occurs whether mulching or bagging. Drive wheels still have plenty of power when this happens. Some have had success replacing with Lithium batteries. They cost twice as much, but last 3 - 4 times longer. This is probably what I will do when I am forced to replace them. ... show more
