    • I Love Cooking on the Flat Top Gas Griddle!

I have seen other gas griddles out there and have wanted one for some time. This one by Royal Gourmet was just the right size and fits our needs wonderfully. We "seasoned" the cooking surface much like you would season a cast iron frying pan. It helped tremendously to make the surface more non-stick. We have been cooking on it for a couple of weeks now. We have used it for chicken, steak, pork chops, burgers and our favorite, fried rice. We have yet to have a meal that was not simply amazing! It has three heating zones, and the griddle temperature varies slightly from one zone to the next. It only takes a few of times cooking on it to master the zones. I generally have a mild heat zone to move things to as I am "building" the dinner, a medium heat zone for slower steadier cooking, and a high temp zone for searing. You can adjust the temp zones to your liking with the three well-placed gas valves on the front of the griddle's base. And clean up is a breeze. It has a grease trap that the drippings and fluids drain into to get them off of your cooking surface. It comes with a cloth-like cover with an elastic band to protect the griddle during times when you are not using it. It also came with a recipe booklet that we have tried a couple of times, but mostly we just searched for griddle marinades and recipes on the internet. I love the convenience, I love the results of the taste of the food. It is rapidly becoming a necessity in our house. The Royal Gourmet PD1301R is an awesome little griddle, and you really can’t beat the price! I’ve always wanted a griddle, but the bigger ones were either too large or too expensive for my needs. Since I only cook for 3 people, having a large griddle felt like overkill and a waste of space. This 24-inch, 3-burner tabletop model is the perfect size for me. It heats evenly, has plenty of cooking space, and is very easy to clean. I had one of those griddles that you add to the top of a normal gas grill, and it didn’t work great and was a pain to clean. This griddle is so much better in terms of functionality and ease of cleaning. The cover is a nice bonus, making it portable and convenient for outdoor cooking. If you’re looking for a compact, budget-friendly griddle that performs great, this one is a fantastic option! ... show more

The cooking surface is heavier than I expected ... a big plus. I washed and seasoned it following the directions. No problem with sticking so far...but I have't tried it with eggs or pancakes. It was easy to set up and all burners lit first try with the igniter. It works great for my purposes...mostly meat and veggies. Slightly uneven heat on surface, but manageable once you learn the hot spots. I do recommend pre heating on high and lowering heat to cook. Easy to clean...I put a small stainless container of water on one corner of the griddle to heat while I'm cooking. When I remove the food, and while it is still hot, I just pour a small amount of the hot water on the surface and scrape it into the receptacle with a silicon spatula. Then just wipe off the surface with paper towels. No need to re-season if you don't use soap. I have not used metal utensils at all...don't want to risk a scratch. The grease receptacle is easy to empty and wash for the next use. I watched LOTS of videos of guys cooking on all brands of "flat top" grills. Lots of good tips, techniques and recipes there. My favorite is to push the fat outside edge of a steak up against the lip of the griddle to brown it perfectly. I'd recommend this griddle to anyone who likes meat, but not the smell or mess when cooking inside. Another reason to have a propane griddle...if we have another power black out this winter, we still have a way to cook that doesn't involve building a fire. Keep in mind that this is ONLY for cooking outdoors...NOT inside your home. BTW I am a woman who does not enjoy grilling, but I do love this flat top grill. ... show more

So far I love this thing, its fit and finish is great and it even looks good. I did just as the instructions said and did 3 full, heat & cool season cycles with spray oil. It is the most non stick griddle I've ever used, after each cook I thoroughly clean it with just water and a soft griddle brush while it's still hot, then I oil it with spray, wipe with napkin where it's just a thin layer of oil left, once it starts to slightly smoke shut it off to cool. The burners are fantastic, the igniter hits all 3 burners at once every single time, has not failed me once on that! Very even cooking, my buddy is upset he bought the 17in Blackstone with one burner, he said this is far better after cooking his breakfast on it, my dad said it heats more even than his 22' Blackstone and is more non stick. Most bad reviews on these coated griddles are simply improper use, they can be non forgiving. This griddle gets alot hotter than you should ever need to cook on, DO NOT turn this griddle on the highest setting then just leave it there.. its good to heat it up fast then turn the burners down to half heat. If you have patience for the maintenance this griddle is a steal, also the big propane tank hook up is a major plus ... show more
