    • Can't get rid of the black rubber taste!

I was SO excited to get my own Berkey. Family members have it and I've had plenty of water from Berkeys at couple of households. I really needed something better than the under sink filter I had. After the initial first few glasses of water being great, I noticed a weird taste in the water, which persisted. When i opened the lid....I could smell it. It's coming from the black rubber washers that go between the black filter and bottom of top stainless steel receptacle. It has passed the red dye test perfectly. I took the whole thing apart to wash again with soap and water, repurge the filters, and had the same thing happen....newly filtered water tastes fine. As soo as the water has been sitting there for a day....tastes nasty....litha a black rubber after taste. Can't rate taste or value (since this was expensive!) any higher with the issue. ... show more

We'd been using pitcher filters, but they were getting expensive and I was still using bottled to drink straight bc it tasted better. Berkey has completely ended my bottled water consumption, this was is clean and delicious. There is some maintenance though, as the filters start to get clogged and slimy after a few months. Be sure to keep the priming gasket handy so you can flush them out every once in awhile. If the claims are correct, we should get about five years out of a set of filters. Id says that's a bargain! ... show more

The media could not be loaded. So the setup was horrible. Directions were confusing with so many pages and directions.it leaked for several days, having to wait till Water was low to keep tightening spout more. I ruined two dining room chairs with the red dye after a spill. I was so frustrated with how many times I had to dump the glasses that on the fourth try it tipped over. Also, several calls to customer service made me realize there were multiple distributors. After a messy week everything stopped leaking and water is great. I gave it three stars because it’s pricey and a lot of work. ... show more

I wanted to like this water purifier; the sight glass has a leak. I was afraid to over tighten the cap for fear of breaking the glass tube. I tried to exchange but was not given that option. I had to return and reorder if I wanted the same model. We decided on a different model.

We love this product with the addition of the stainless spigot with glass viewer to show the level of water in the tank. At first I didn’t want to pay the extra money for this attachment, and now I’m glad I got it. Also got the fluoride filters.

Came with a big dent in the top. Also it filters so slow. We have primed the filters multiple times still takes 12+hours to filter a full tank.
