Bought this as a second gift for my wife. As it reminds us of our time in Kyoto, Japan. The whole train scene is just really cool. The actual assembly went ok, some very small pieces were a bit difficult to put together. I would say that they really need to rethink the sequence of putting things together. I had difficulty with a certain section that involved gluing the gray cardboard, which is supposed to look like corrugated metal sheets. I had crushed the cardboard while gluing it on the wooden roof part. According to the instructions, you were supposed to glue the cardboard on the wooden roof before attaching it to the building. But when you try to attach the finished roof, it doesn’t always fit into place without some pressure. So I feel that you should glue the cardboard on the wooden roof with it already assembled in place. There were a couple of other instances where if you follow the instruction sequence, that you it is actually very difficult to assemble. But all in all this one is great and fun to do. It does not have any painting, just gluing little pieces of paper and things like that. The other designs are a bit more difficult as they involve painting multiple layers of paint in order to complete the bookend. So this one is a bit easier to complete and assemble. Have fun and take your time if you are going to do it. I was under a time crunch and didn’t want my wife to see what I was assembling. Got this as a gift for my husband who loves trains and it fits into our bookshelf aesthetic. It is definitely possible to build alone - but a lot of fun as a couple's activity. I would find the pieces and my husband would assemble and then we would switch off every few pages. It took us about 6 hours total to build and it looks great! Love all of the details and the craftsmanship! I would recommend being extremely careful when removing the pieces - we did break a few pieces that have skinnier parts and had to frankenstein them back together. We also used a small detail paintbrush to help with glue so we didn't get glue all over our fingers and onto all the other wood pieces. I’ve done at least a dozen miniatures and Book Nooks, this one by far is the nicest. At first I thought the light kit wasn’t working and gave feedback to the seller but then read a comment to press the little round circle sticker after connecting and turning on. It’s a touch on off switch! This kit is so cute! The materials are solid wood with nice quality stickers. No glue needed! And no painting or cutting!Loved doing this Book Nook!! ... show more

I loved the train. If it had just been the train, I would have rated it a 5 star. The train was challenging to build, but looked amazing when it was done. The problem was with the box. While the lights were well identified at the beginning of the booklet, the second (or back light) lights wire was on the short side. It just reached but just barely. It was very tight to work with. Second, before starting the lighting I checked to make sure the lights worked before installing. After installing, them, they only worked intermittently. So I redid the lights, but it didn't fix the problem. Finally, the lights stopped working Altogether. I got this for my 20 year old who is an avid reader. We spent approximately 6 hours assembling this together and had a great time doing so. It looks great on her bookshelf and she is considering another. I have built models in the past, so it was easy enough for me to complete, but novice builders, especially doing this on their own, can expect to spend a few extra hours. Take your time though, you will pleased once completed. It is very detailed and surprisingly does not require glue, though if you plan to move it around a lot, I'd recommend gluing some of the looser pieces. My only negative is that this does not have a dust guard as some of these kits do. All in all, a great project for the book lover or modeler. ... show more

The instructions were very clear. The parts take some patience since you need enough pressure on the tag board, but not so much that it splinters. The included glue was good craft glue. I enjoyed putting it together, and was really pleased by the finished piece, especially with the light glowing through. ... show more
