  • Good Fun
Robot Hive: Exodus was simply another impulse buy for me after hearing "10001110101" on Sirius. Prior to this week, I knew only of Clutch as the guys that did that song from a while back (last year?) called "The Mob Goes Wild". Well, one thing is for sure: I'll be familiar with a lot more of their songs now, because I'll be keeping this CD in my car changer for while. I must say that I listened to this disk with a smile on my face the whole way through. Not just because I was thoroughly enjoying the music, but because I was picturing this good ole ZZ Top lookin dude fronting a Lynard Skynard crew jamming the songs out. But I just caught their video "Burning Beard" over on Launch and what I got sure kept the smile on my face....It looked more like Joe Cocker meets Henry Rollins! So my visual perception of the band is a bit out of whack now, but that doesn't take away from the fact that Robot Hive: Exodus is an extremely fun, rockin disk. A lot of the songs have this Rage Against The Machine backbeat, but rest assured, don't expect Zack Delaroche or Chris Cornell. What you get is a unique, Southern vocal sound that kinda sticks to you. But I think that I heard that these guys are from Maryland, so go figure. Anyway, Robot Hive is mostly a rocker that keeps your head bobbin, your toes tappin and your mouth smilin'. It's also fun getting the chorus right to "10001110101" in order to sing along to. Rockers should give it a try. ... show more

  • Good stuff, but doesn't beat the last one
I definitely consider myself a Clutch fan, but I do feel like their releases can be uneven. If we start with the first full-length, Transnational Speedway, I would venture to claim that every second album is a bit weaker. Since this was one of those every-other-albums, does the pattern hold true? Yes, and no. Overall, I do like this album alot. I think that, with Blast Tyrant, this represents Clutch's strongest back-to-back releases. However, it just doesn't quite measure up to Blast Tyrant, which I think is among their best. When I say "weaker" releases, it has alot to do with having spots that sag or bring down the rest of the album. Whereas every song on Blast Tyrant is a winner, this one fades for me towards the end. I love tracks like "10001110101," but I feel like the Robot Hive loses momentum towards the end, especially since it includes not one but blues covers in row to finish out the album. This decision, to me, sort of stretches the album out after it feels like it is supposed to be finished, without really adding much. Couldn't they have released these some other way? Anyway, I would still unreservedly recommend this to any Clutch fan. You just might find yourself turning it off sometimes before it is done. ... show more

  • off center so bad i cant close the lid on my tt
Warped, off center so bad i cant close the lid on my tt. It is so compressed that it sounds like its recorded under water. Poor quality on last 3 clutch albums. Great band tho, i want to buy their music but im not interested in being ripped off again. If you want to hear clutch, buy the cd or see them live .....what would a wookie do!?update 9/7/18 I apologize for that I have been listening wrong , just got an old maranttz turntable and it sounds great it seems only Marantz can capture the glory of clutch the other turntables cost 500 the Marantz is worth about 25 dollars on e bay ... show more

  • Big bluesy fat slabs of space-age jam metal
Where do I even start with this album? There's so much going on with this band and they do it so well it's almost impossible to translate it into words. They pummel you with Sabbath style riffs; they groove with the best of jam bands; they've got a vein of blues straight out of the Delta, and the whole thing is wrapped up in a sci-fi concept that comes right out of Rush's playbook, or even the Hawkwind missal. The lyrics are humorous, intelligent, nonsensical, poetic and all sung with Neil Fallon's superb, bluesy bellow. Clutch is one of those "best bands you probably haven't heard of", and if I didn't stumble across 10001110101 on the radio, I would still be in the dark, but thanks to that moment of mind-blowing serendipity I am hooked. If you're looking for a unique, talented band, making music that runs completely counter to the homogenous dreck cluttering up the airwaves, you have just found it. Adjust your pants, and dance the good time dance. (But then again that's a different album.) ... show more

  • Clutch shows diversity on this one
This is my fourth favorite Clutch album (behind Clutch, The Elephant Riders, and Blast Tyrants). What I really love about it is it has diversity, more so than their other releases. It's heavy and bluesy, it's rocks and mellows out, it's overall a bit more progressive than Clutch usually is. If you're a fan a putting a rock album and listening to it all the way through from start to finish than I would recommend Robot Hives/Exodus. Clutch rocks, end of story. ... show more

  • The best Clutch Album
I started listening to Clutch when Transnational came out. I loved that album. When self titled came out, I almost gave up on them. It was such a departure from speedway league that I thought it wasnt the same band. Little did I know, they would evolve on each album. They improve their sound for each album, and you know what - IT WORKS. My favorite songs are still the earlier heavy ones like Far country, Shogun, Binge and Purge and Impetus, but as I have gotten older I appreciate all of their songs now. When you see songs like Burning Beard, Mice and Gods and 10001110101 live you will understand what I mean. Even though I love all Clutch albums, this has become my favorite. ... show more
