  • Very Happy, but onboard intelligence needs work
After having done a great deal of research, I am very, very happy with the product - now that I have a better grasp of it's strengths and weaknesses. You can read all about the reasons to love the product on the page, so I will share the things the marketing material doesn't mention. I purchased both (not at the same time) the eufy by Anker, RoboVac G30, and this Roborock S7+ Robot Vacuum and Sonic Mop with Auto-Empty Dock here on amazon... and I need them both. Hear me out. One practical issue is that "scheduled cleaning" may be included on the S7+, but isn't a really an option. To properly use the S7+, you must clean or change the mop pad, you must wet the mop pad, and you have to fill the water tank. So there is no such thing as unattended operation. Any indication otherwise is skeptical. For example, the user manual says that you should empty the water tank and detach and clean the mop between uses. If you do that - you can't schedule cleaning. If you don't do it, you need to make sure that the S7+ goes to the dock with a full water tank. You're involved any way you look at it. Then when it starts cleaning, the mop will be too dry, and only thin, wet streaks will make it onto the floor until 1/4 of the tanks reserves are used up soaking the mop cloth. Also, the best mopping setting, "Fine Mopping" disables the vacuum. That was unexpected. The "normal" setting is good for most things, but when I want to mop the floors, I want to do a proper job of it. On the other hand, I do like to spray something on the floors ahead of the robot and I wouldn't want the liquid floor cleaner vacuumed up in the process. You can't put any cleaning solution in the water tank, so the S7+ is basically water and a wet washcloth dragging across your floor. That's not to say it isn't good, 99.99% of the time, a wash cloth across the floor a few times a week is all I need to keep the house clean. I prefer to have some type of solvent diluted in a spray bottle and applied to the floor so I use Lundmark floor cleaner for the tiles and Lysol floor cleaner for the laminate floors. You should understand that the ENTIRE Mop Attachment does not vibrate for the scrubbing action. It does not. There is a smaller, stretchy area in the middle of the mopping pad called the vibration area. The mop mount has an area that wiggles. It wiggles the vibration plate. The vibration plate is velcro'd to the vibration area of the mop pad, and that is the only part that "scrubs." So it scrubs in the middle, but not the full 11 in. width of the pad - it is not edge-to-edge. So, my house runs smoothest when the eufy RoboVac G30 vacuums the house first (it's smaller, gets into more places, and a low-profile to get under furniture), and then I activate the Roborock S7+ to do the mopping. I DO wonder if this means I should have purchased a dedicated mopping robot with spinning pads, but most of them are not very smart and most of them don't work with Alexa. The onboard software needs some work. The S7+ definitely knows where the vacuum is in the head, doing a fine job whenever I use it. But it has NO idea where its rear-end with the mopping pad is going. This is never more obvious than on an outside-curve. The refrigerator is ever so slightly rounded, and bows out a bit, and the S7+ gets its nose all the way around it, but the mop never comes near the edge. There is about 8 in. in front of my fridge that the S7+ has never been able to mop. It does a find job moving in a straight line under the cabinets and dishwasher, but that outside-curve foils the S7+ every time. I have to get my swiffer wet jet to clean that area. Also, the software is too conservative when it maps out the room. It reminds me of how some older children use a coloring book. The S7+ will go around the outside edge of the room cleaning about a 12 in. wide strip along the way. Then it will go back and forth within the outline to clean the area. However, it proceeds to mop WITHIN that original 12 in. strip. Never again reaching the edges. So it misses the opportunity to mop the spaces it failed to reach in front of the refrigerator. If the onboard software was updated, it could fix a tremendous amount of dead areas. There is a lot of criticism of the bump-and-pivot style, non-laser units, like my RoboVac G30, but it never, ever misses a spot. And I have since duct-taped a swiffer duster pad to its butt, so every time it turns around, it dusts the baseboards. Another weakness in the S7+ is that it has a VERY difficult time with rather common door saddles. This, I really don't understand, but it appears to be mechanical. The saddle in the door frame between my hallway and bathroom doesn't seem high at all. The RoboVac G30 has no issue getting over it. The S7+ fails to enter the room 6 out of 10 times. Once the nose goes over the saddle, the middle of the body catches a fulcrum point, and the wheels cannot push the robot over the saddle. Sometimes it can, but it fails enough that I have learned to place the S7+ in that room before I issue the command to "Start Cleaning." It seems to have no problem leaving that room, but isn't good at entering it. So again, there is no such thing as unattended cleaning. Just a final note. These things I have mentioned are not a big deal to me. In the grand scheme of things, my floors have never been this consistently clean. Many people point out that these robots can't scrub and clean as effectively as a person with a mop - that is clearly true. However, the S7+ keeps you very far ahead of the game, and this "frequent maintenance" very dramatically reduces the need for manual mopping. ... show more

  • This is a lifesaver!
I have never written a review of anything before and I buy something from Amazon pretty much everyday. I was hesitant to get this because of the price tag but I read the other reviews and took the plunge. It was either this or hire a maid service because my floors were driving me crazy. I have a dog that literally sheds incessantly and a huge amount. And a dog door so she can go in and out at will and drag in all sorts of dirt and little pieces of the yard into the house. It was out of control and we were having to constantly sweep and vacuum and it was never enough. Well. This thing is amazing. It works to the point that the floors are literally spotless. One of the things I looked for in the review is - can the contraption go over door thresholds? From room to room? I didn’t see the answer so here it is - yes. It navigates my door thresholds for each bedroom and my bathroom with absolutely no problem at all. Each threshold is about half and inch but I can see it clearly something a little taller too. You need to let it map your house the first time it runs so you can tell it where you want it to mop and vacuum in the future. I’m computer challenged so I was worried I would screw it up or not be able to use the functions. Never fear. If you are a middle aged Gen-xer with a limited tech skill set this is for you. You can tell it where to go and where not to go with no problem. I’ve run it everyday for a week and the only regular thing you need to do daily is add water to the mop water tank and clean the mop pad. You run it from an app on the phone and can start it remotely because it connects to your WiFi. Should have bought this a year ago. ... show more

  • No better vacuum/mop combo than this.
Background: I used iRobot products for a long time. I still have them, 900 series vacuum and BraavaJet. I got sick of Braavajet getting stuck in docking station even after getting replacement for that issue. Moreover, the vacuum was getting old and tired and it didn't have smart map function. So after research, I decided to integrate both functions in one with this unit and I love it very much. Highlights: 1. Smart map function is so convenient to use. Once it maps out the house, you can set up invisible walls, no go zones, name each room, divide rooms if you want and more. You can set up cleaning either by rooms, or by manually selecting zones. 2. Carpet setting First of all, it has no problem going over long haired (?) area rugs. It lifts the mop while it's on carpet/rugs and only vacuums. 3. Map storage for multiple levels/houses You can store multiple maps for different floors or levels. All you need to do is to move it manually to the level/floor you want it to clean before you run it. You would have to command it to run on the selected floor though. 4. Water tank it does not abuse water like Braavajet. Tank is small but runs for a long time. The cleaning pad does not get nasty like Braavajet's. I think it's because of the oscillation technology. Well part of it is probably because I run it quite often w/o worrying about the unit getting stuck. 5. Auto emptying station I checked out the bin the first time I ran it out of curiosity before auto emptying. Then checked it out a few more times just to see auto emptying actually works. It did. I haven't looked at the dust bin since then for a long time. As of now, I have used the unit 53 hours, 29K SF, and 55 cycles. Still there's plenty of space in the bag in auto empty station. 6. Auto docking after cleaning One of the biggest issues I have had with iRobot units was this. They just cannot find the stations. Well Roborock has not failed one single time except when it was stuck under objects. If it gets stuck under or on certain objects repeatedly, you can just block out the section in map editing. I don't have that issue anymore. No more walking around the house trying to find my vacuum. No wonder iRobot has the function to make the unit beep in their application because they know their units have that issue. 7. Vacuum function It vacuums 1000% better than my iRobot. The iRobot kicks around some of the dirt instead of suctioning it as the bin gets full. Roborock suctions things very well. 8. Mopping Well it removes older, stubborn stains like dried out liquid drops much better than Braavajet. Cons: 1. the side brush - it's made of silicon. very grabby. So it does not do well on certain longer fiber rugs. Oddly, I found this issue only on bathroom rugs. My living room rug has longer fiber but it has never had an issue with the rug. But the side brush got all tangled up with bathroom rugs 2-3 times. I had to change out the side brush after that as blades were bent and broken pretty bad. Hm.. I can't think of anything else. And for those who wonder if they can add any cleaning solutions in the water tank, you can use Braavajet's cleaning solution safely. I've been using it all along and all components are fine. Unfortunately Braavajet's solution is proprietary so nobody knows what the ingredients are. If Roborock makes their own liquid, I would definitely buy it instead of iRobot's. ... show more
