Features

  • +19 / +4 dBu switch on the bottom adds a direct way to reduce the output level, thus improves SNR for sensitive active monitors, avoids distortion / overload, and helps to keep TotalMix FX faders near 0 dB instead of high attenuations.
  • Full SteadyClock FS circuit as in the ADI-2 Pro FS for lowest jitter and highest jitter immunity.
  • 3. 5 mm TRS phones output power rises from 70 mW to 90 mW. THD of both phones outputs improved by up to 10 dB. Uses same output op-amps as ADI-2 Pro now. Output impedance of 3. 5 mm TRS lowered from 2 Ohms to 0. 1 Ohms.
  • Mic inputs SNR improved from 112. 2 dB to 113. 7 dB, TRS Line inputs SNR improved from 114 dB to 116. 3 dB (120 dBA). THD Line inputs improved by 8 dB.
  • 6 samples less latency on the AD side by new ADC (5 samples AD, 7 samples DA. It won't get quicker. . . ).

Description

Four years ago the Babyface Pro again demonstrated RME’s absolute commitment to superior craftsmanship, not only in audio circuits and driver development, but also in mechanics. Created with the highest precision from a block of aluminum, this high-end portable interface incorporated newly designed analog and digital circuits. Its innovative energy saving technologies provided supreme fidelity with no compromises in level, noise or distortion. In the new Babyface Pro FS even more improvements were implemented: +19 / +4 dBu switch on the bottom adds a direct way to reduce the output level, thus improves SNR for sensitive active monitors, avoids distortion / overload, and helps to keep TotalMix FX faders near 0 dB instead of high attenuations. Full SteadyClock FS circuit as in the ADI-2 Pro FS for lowest jitter and highest jitter immunity. 3. 5 mm TRS phones output power rises from 70 mW to 90 mW. THD of both phones outputs improved by up to 10 dB. Uses same output op-amps as ADI-2 Pro now. Output impedance of 3. 5 mm TRS lowered from 2 Ohms to 0. 1 Ohms. Mic inputs SNR improved from 112. 2 dB to 113. 7 dB, TRS Line inputs SNR improved from 114 dB to 116. 3 dB (120 dBA). THD Line inputs improved by 8 dB. 6 samples less latency on the AD side by new ADC (5 samples AD, 7 samples DA. It won't get quicker. . . ). All the above improvements were achieved without raising the units power consumption. K-slot for theft protection. ADI-2 Series Headphone Power The two headphone outputs, offering TRS and mini-jack sockets in parallel, have completely separate driver stages to perfectly match low and high impedance headphones, ing pristine sonic results no matter what type of headphone is used. The 3. 5 mm TRS phones output power rises to 90 mW. THD of both phones outputs improved by up to 10 dB. and uses same output op-amps as ADI-2 Pro now. Finally the output impedance of 3. 5 mm TRS was lowered from 2 Ohms to 0. 1 Ohms. Full range capture - Improved Mic & Line Inputs For the main I/O RME have designed a XLR socket, which integrates seamlessly into the housing and saves space. Two digitally controlled preamps provide individually switchable 48V phantom power. These circuits feature a gain range of 76 dB, adjustable in steps of 1 dB, including a relay-driven PAD, resulting in exceptional EIN (Equivalent Input Noise) performance as well as line overload protection, and enough gain for even the lowest level microphones. Babyface Pro’s incredibly efficient design almost never requires an external power supply – it’s perfectly stable on USB 3 bus power, and also most USB 2 ports, with no degradation in any technical specification. This makes it perfect for mobile recording, even with a pair of your favourite condenser microphones. The comprehensive feature set continues with an optical TOSLINK I/O; use as either an ADAT port with SMUX support or SPDIF for sessions up to 192 kHz. In combination with an external ADAT converter, the Babyface Pro fully supports 12 analog inputs as well as 12 outputs, making it ideal for both live and studio multi-track applications. You can plug any instrument, line or high impedance, into Babyface Pro’s jack inputs 3 & 4. Record your guitar on the go, with no additional hardware required. MIDI I/O via an included breakout cable completes the package. More Pro level Performance with SteadyClock FS In digital audio, the clock frequency is an essential factor, as it creates the correlation between the audio bits and the time reference. Unfortunately, the clock frequency is not always as stable as desired. The Babyface Pro FS offers the full SteadyClock FS circuit as in the ADI-2 Pro FS for lowest jitter and highest jitter immunity. Excellent performance in all clock modes and High Quality Analog Conversion to hear your mix as it is. Digital format conversion in RME products are done without any loss or degredation, and SteadyClock FS ensures your sonic image will never experience degredation. This helps to optimize recordings and mixes because the soundstage has more depth and clarity.

  • Definitely the best Audio Interface I could ever ask for
Style: Interface
I got this interface so that I could have my XLR microphone and my audiophile grade headphones all plugged in on one device so that I could cut down on clutter, and it absolutely fills that role. I was originally put off by the price, considering I had an Audient ID14MK2 which was already 95% of what I needed for a smidge over 3x less. However, this audio interface is so much more worth it. There are so many things you can do with this interface that I would never need, but I am so happy that I can do them. EQ was one of the things I couldnt do before and am tremendously excited that is now a possibility, thats both on the headphone end and on the microphone end. I have always EQ'd my headphones, so this was super nice to have EQ for both my input and output with just one software. Also, the onboard controls are honestly so nice to have with the interface. One of the big selling points for me is that there is pretty much a way to do everything that you can do with the software, on the device itself. The small catch is that it can be a little tricky to remember or learn the controls, but there is an entire 200 page manual sent with the device that contains the answer to literally any question you could possibly have about the device. I sometimes feel like it was an unnecessary purchase or maybe it was a bit too overkill but I wouldn't have it any other way and Im confident that I wont need another audio interface or any other audio device for decades to come. ... show more

  • Great Sounding Portable Interface with 4 Inputs
Style: Interface
I have been a Focusrite user since the Scarlett first gen came out. I then purchased a gen 3 and later a Clarett 2pre and a Clarett+ 2pre. The Clarett was really nice, but I had issues with the drivers and I also needed 4 inputs for use with my Fractal Audio FM3. The Babyface is much more expensive, but well worth it. There is also a bit of a learning curve as it's not as straight forward as the focusrite products. Give it a shot, you will not be disappointed. The sound is incredible both through the Line outs and the Headphone outs. ... show more

  • Using live with iPad Pro 11 2018
Style: Interface
I was using an XR18 but wanted to downsize my set up for solo vocal and guitar running backing tracks. I've used it for once so far, but I can tell you that it sounds so much cleaner in addition to having a tiny footprint. It doesn't have the audio routing or the built in effects of the XR18, but I can make it work with my iPad Pro 11 2018 using plugins for my needs. My rack case is now a 3U versus a 5U with the XR. I'll update in a week. ... show more

Style: Interface
It is difficult to configure, there is a fairly long learning curve, it is not very intuitive to use, the quality is very good but the price is quite high. Although it has two headphone outputs, the routed audio is the same, that is, it cannot be separated, you cannot control the headphone volume independently of the other, it is the same signal on two outputs, since that option is only available on the another model that is more expensive. ... show more

  • Months update. I went from Audient to SSL 2 to this and I LOVE RME!
Style: Interface
Wow. What an upgrade from Audient and SSL 2. RME Babyface pro FS have insanely clean preamps. I don’t even use my focusrite ISA one anymore because these preamps are so clean and clear. Everyone says it felt like a blanket got lifted…well..they are right. After a few months I had to still give it a try and I conclude that I am finally a huge fan of RME. The price may be high but it was well worth it over the SSL2 and Audient ID 22. Thank you RME! You truly make amazing high quality products! 🙏 ... show more

  • Best audio interface under $1000 USD
Style: Interface
This small block of aluminum is a must-have for serious home studios. Great drivers, great preamps and converters that are a cut above what you find in the SSL2 and other lesser interfaces that use generic components. If you're using a high end mic, you'd better be using an interface that's just as good, or that mic is wasted. ... show more

  • Stopped working - over heated
Style: Interface
After about a month of using this thing I was impressed until i noticed when I used it for longer sessions of mixing I’d noticed clipping coming from the audio coming from speakers. And then this interface just shut off and would not come back on until the next day. However when it came back on it would not connect to my MAC no matter what I did. ... show more
