Got these for electric fence repair for our cows. We had been using the plastic fence post insulators. They would often get broken by a bump of one cow trying to scratch or forgetting it was there then the whole line is shorted out. We decided metal might last a little longer. These are a nice distance from the wood. Screw into the wood with no tools or at least on ours. The plastic is more like a separate piece that is popped over the metal instead of being dipped. I was afraid that the twisting action of screwing it into the wood would break it off but it stayed on just like I took it out of the bag. So far they are working better than the plastic insulators. Would buy them again at this point. Time will tell how they hold up. ... show more

We use a lot of electric fence on our farm to keep the livestock off the new fencing. These connectors/insulators were longer than expected, and will work perfectly to keep the animals off the fencing and far enough away from the metal fence to prevent arcing. This bag of screw-in insulators are perfect for creating a good distance from the poles or trees you put them into. The insulator could handle wire or tape. The tape would not be flat since the hole in the middle is approx 3/8" in diameter. The shaft is approx 1/4" diameter so you will need to drill a smaller pilot hole in the post if the wood is in good shape. The plastic insulator is a press-fit onto the knurled end of the shaft. They can come off if you are rambunctious in screwing the unit into the pole. ... show more

These insulators are very long (over 8"). They are also fairly study and don't flex a whole lot for those times when you need to have your wire out away from the fence. These are for wooden posts or trees. The only issue is that they don't come with any type of drill attachment so they must installed by hand or pre-drilling holes. ... show more

I got these to use with running an half-wave 80 meter dipole antenna along the fascia boards of my house. I have PVC gutters and these stand the wire off and away from the house and gutters PERFECTLY! They have held up to the wave of storms we've had recently and are not noticeable unless you are specifically looking for them. I have seen YouTubers use similar to run wire antennas along wooden fences with great results. I know this is an "off-label" use of these, but as a ham radio operator, we sometimes have to be creative and think outside the box. 100% recommend these for fencing or communications. ... show more

    • Heavy duty electric fence holder for a variety of locations

These insulators were quite a bit more heavy duty than I was expecting them to be. The metal holders are a very substantial diameter that would be impossible for me to bend with just hand strength. Likewise the black plastic insulators themselves are well made and have an angled opening on one side that allows you to easily put in the wire, but prevents it from being removed by accident. They have a hook shaped end on the insulator side that allows you to grasp it firmly with pliers and twist it securely into place if you’re installing them in an existing wood fence. Overall a great set of electric fence holders that attach securely and should last for a long time. Alternatively, these are long enough to sink into the ground directly and run a wire a few inches off the ground around a chicken tractor or other mobile structure that you want to protect from whatever. I could even see using these around garden beds to keep rabbits or woodchucks out. However you use them, they should last a long time! ... show more
