I bought a section of fence and an energizer good for 6 sections of fence in the winter. This kept my chickens in check all winter long so I expanded this spring to keep them out of my garden. Nothing worse then tilling, planting and either getting seedlings up or just planted and find your chickens truly loved their new dust bath not to mention the lovely greens you provided, kinda like those cucumber slices you put on your eyes. After a month or so, I wasn't getting anything over 2-3 thousand volts. And this is the fix... "So I worked on my chicken fence last night. Bought this in the winter to keep the chickens from going roming and to see if it worked. The chickens stay in the fence, the animals/predators stay out BUT all winter my single line of fence stayed at about 8000 volts while snapping in a few places on the ground. For the last two months thats been at no more then 2000, not good but still makes the puppies noses tingle. It was at 6-8 thousand when I added the extra two strands. To be fair, I've been a little down in the hips and legs and, well everything since the last Psoriasis medication stopped working on the Arthritis. So I isolated and moved the first section of fence and mowed down the grass that had grown into it, got it mowed tight on the path and resecured the first section of fence. Still at 2-3 thousand volts. I can hear it snappin at 12 of the 14 paces inbetween posts though. you get 4 mini posts per section to hold the fence up a bit so I took all 12 of mine and went to put one of those in with the fence energized. I've done this plenty before. Fence jiggled and slid up to touch my hand while I'm on my bare knee on the ground. Got me good enough I wasn't cussing. 🤣 So, after de-energizing, putting all my stakes in and re-energizing the fence? 10-12 thousand. (I also have two grounding stakes now, only one in the winter) GREAT. Did the other two sections of the fence, plugged them in and 3-4 thousand. I ordered another group of mini posts for where it's touching. I should be able to shock a deer at 10 paces before long." The fence , even at reduced power, works great. Chickens stay in THOUGH THEY CAN FLY OVER. But they've spent all summer inside the fence, even when I moved it to keep them out of my blackberries for picking. The difference in tingle between 2 and 10 thousand volts is substantial. I really wish I could teach all the parts of my body to stay clear. I'm a testament to the it won't kill ya but MAN is it a rush. I've had the best garden in 5 years though one of those bad years was due to a bunny infestation. The chickens are happy as they have a large area to run around in. After Blackberry season I'll put the bushes back inside the area so they can run and hide in the tunnels created by the bushes. I can't recommend this fence enough. If you have flat land you probably won't need the little stakes for in between. But for increased voltage and predator denial, don't hesitate. You MIGHT be able to make your own, I imagine dowel rod and some way to hold those firm could get the job done, as could the right size branch or twig. But the mini takes are the right size, sturdy and repositionable for a price that makes fabbing your own something for people with time, equipment and gumption.     • Better than I expected - works great for our chickens

I don't usually write reviews, but I wanted to add my thoughts for this product, as I had such a hard time finding a well-reviewed electric poultry fence. Most of them, including this one, had a number of negative reviews about flimsiness, difficulty setting up, etc., but this one was in stock and a great size for the price, and since we really needed a fence asap for our 8-week-old chickens, I went ahead and ordered it. I set ours up yesterday for the first time and am very pleased with both the quality and ease of setup! First, I will say that it is true what many reviewers have said - the poles are rather flimsy and a bit too flexible. HOWEVER, the guy wires included with this kit were VERY helpful at correcting the sagging issues! I was also worried about being able to stick the poles in the ground, as we have very heavy and hard clay soil. I had NO issues at all with this, though I did wait for a rain to soften the ground a bit first. Here are the pros and cons of this fence, as I have experienced so far: Cons: - Poles are thin and flexible, so they pull easily to either side and bend and sag if the fence isn't pulled tight. (This is my only reason for 4 stars instead of 5.) - It's mostly white - not an issue for us as it's back behind our garden and hard to see from there, but some people might prefer it to blend in more with the landscape. - It would be nice if it had a smaller section at one end to use as a "gate" for ease of access. Since the poles are so flexible, I am able to hold it down a bit and step over in the less tight areas, but it's a bit awkward, especially when carrying something. Pros: - Plenty of poles that are spaced a nice distance apart. We had previously purchased some sturdier corner support posts to help support the fence when it arrived, but in fact, we don't even need to use them as there are so many support posts included in the fence itself. - The step-in spikes at the bottom are metal and go into our hard clay soil easier than expected. - I LOVE that this fence included everything needed for setup - including extra pieces of fencing for mending future tears, metal spikes to secure the bottom of the fencing, as well as the spikes and guy wires for securing and tightening the corners - both metal and plastic spikes. Our soil is so hard, we tried the plastic ones but they were bending right away, so we switched to the metal ones and they work perfectly! - The fencing itself seems very tough and sturdy. - I like the extra rows of smaller holes at the bottom. Our chickens are not full-grown yet, and many of the other fences I looked at had larger holes lower down and I was worried they would be able to fit through the fence. This one has 6 full rows of the 3" holes, so our chicks are plenty secure and cannot escape. - Good height. Some of the other fences were only 42", but this is a full 48". I will still probably have to clip some of their wings, but so far, no one has flown over yet. - It's big! Our chicks have a much bigger area to roam in than I expected, so I shouldn't have to move the fencing for quite some time. Other notes on setup: - Watch the instructional video! I watched it first, and it was very helpful in figuring out how to lay out and set up the fence for the first time. I set it up all by myself, and it probably would have only taken about 1/2 hour except that I decided to change the layout halfway through and had to move all the poles again. - We have not electrified ours yet. We don't have a lot of predators around here during the day, and plan on only letting our chickens out to roam while we are around to watch them. Unless the chickens themselves start trying to get through it (which I doubt, as they are used to permanent fencing already), I hopefully won't need to buy a charger. Therefore, one side of the fence as I currently have it set up is actually tied to the garden fence for support. However, I only had to tie it in one spot. Using the guy wires at the other corners kept it nice and tight the rest of the way around. Overall, I am very pleased with the apparent quality and durability of this fence. It was easy to move (not too heavy for a small woman to handle), and easy to set up. It would be nice if the poles were a bit sturdier, but having the guy wires included made a huge difference, and I didn't see these listed with most of the other fences I looked at. Considering the size of this fence and everything that was included, it was definitely the best value for the price that I found online anywhere. ... show more

    • Love the concept

Love the concept, good size, easy enough to set up. Maybe it's me but it's not got enough spark, my horses will lean over it. The chickens/ ducks will stay in as long as they don't figure out they can fly over it, yes i actually clip there wings to try preventing this. The steaks are an issue.. 1. They are too far apart, so the net sags. I end up putting a fiberglass pole in between each to help with this. 2. With that much space between, why would you use a hollow post? not much support. As i run a ranch and build alot off fence there are 4' and 6' fiberglass posts that are solid and more sturdy and still easy enough to get in the ground. I have 3 of the 180' that i move the chickens/ ducks around the property for pasture raising and i do like these nets, but I've had to make some modifications ... show more

Hard to keep the fence from sagging, even when pulled tight with the guy lines. Came with 4 middle posts to help with sag, but wish there was one for every length. Pretty much impossible to keep it from shorting out at least a little bit with any length of grass. That being said, it still works well. Even with a little voltage being lost to the grass, it still shocks. Made my dog yelp when he touched it. One of my kids said it didn't hurt and showed me how he could touch it. I suggested he try it barefooted, and we'll just say that he won't be doing it again. ... show more

This would be a much better product if the smaller mesh at the bottom extended upward to at least halfway of the netting. My younger smaller chickens continually get out. Because the mesh widens too soon from the bottom. A good product, but not for smaller chickens.
