  • Finally, a book with actionable solutions to pain, delivered with authority, grace and humility.
Dr. Buchanan offers a unique perspective on a too-common issue in modern society – Pain. Most experts try to identify the cause of pain and “cure” it, with physical therapy and/or drugs and/or surgery, and with highly varying degrees of success. An Air Force colonel—a senior medical officer—once told me that surgery may fix what’s wrong, but you’ll never be the same. My subsequent surgeries have since added personal experience to the validity of that comment. If only I could have read this book before surrendering to surgery decades ago! This author’s approach is to listen to your pain, listen to the story it’s telling you, and learn how to address the real cause—structural, behavioral, emotional and/or intellectual. “Pain is not optional. How you deal with it is.” Rarely do experts discuss decreasing pain and increasing pleasure in one’s existence in the same breath—including emotional, financial, work and/or relationship pain as an integral part of the whole picture. This one does! Taken together, Dr. Buchanan is a guide, helping us to embark on a personal journey; a journey of learning about one’s Self in order to feel our pain, listen to its story and make decisions for moving away from pain and towards one’s personal happiness and bliss. Amazingly, with all the information and resources presented, this book is highly readable and easy to digest. As you read, it’s almost as though the author is in the room talking with you. Read this book before you undergo (or develop a need for) orthopedic surgery. See if these techniques work for you. It’s very likely that you’ll find one (or more) that works to improve your health, wellbeing and happiness. This approach isn’t a quick fix; it requires a paradigm shift in your way of thinking and/or living, but it’s worth considering—especially if you’re ready to take charge of your life and your happiness.   • Broaden Your Awareness and Love More!
I enjoyed the approach Dr. Buchanan used in "Relieve Your Pain…" and recommend it because the book uses an uplifting, positive, pro-active, spirited narrative to what could otherwise be only a practical guidebook to assist with pain that we all have in our lives. While this book provides wonderful exercises and declarations to support and assist the reader with clear and simple instructions, the author is very down to earth, friendly and gentle, in a one-on-one way. There is no fluff or generalities. It is earnest, effective, humorous, kind and loving reading, yet the author has a goal to use her vast experience and education to help relieve pain. This book is suitable for a wide audience. The author references different modalities to provide a "wrapping together" of "the mind, body and soul" and an opportunity for "a journey of self-discovery" touching on all aspects of one's Being. I liked how the exercises facilitate "new awareness," which is "essential to learning" and "shifting our thinking." I found the following passage from the book is on target for health and wellbeing: "With new awareness, paying attention, being open, surrendering and getting out of our own way, change and improvement happen. We reorganize the connections among the neurons in our brains. We sharpen our perceptions. We shift our thinking. We become more understanding, more compassionate, more loving." Having worked with various healing modalities, therapeutic massage, and the practice of yoga, I appreciated Dr. Buchanan's holistic approach to alleviating life's pain, whether it be physiological, emotional, or other types. The approach of incorporating the attitude of gratitude to assist a shift in thinking, and implementing simple exercises for a better quality of life is just up my alley.   • Getting from here to there with less pain and more gain. I’m ready to start!
What a thorough and easy to read book to help center yourself and be present to really address pains of all sorts. I love the easy-going (and very knowledgeable) writing, like the author is here, explaining it to me in person. Humor, life, and experiences also help. As an early 60s woman with genetic bone problems, and now age to boot, (plus all the work and emotional pains of life) I’m ready to solve my pain puzzle and use this book to empower me to better choices in learning how to relieve pain and finally improve my quality of life. Chapter exercises, points of awareness and reviews; explanation and diagrams of skeletal organization and relationship to each other; all are very helpful in a book like this. As the author states, “Our earthly home is embodied within us, and awareness is essential to learning.” I for one am ready to tune up my true home and learn how to take better care of it. I highly recommend others read this book and learn how to take care of your true home so you can start getting from here to there with less pain and more love and happiness.   • Leaving Painville....and coming home.
As a master healer, medical intuitive and certified Body Code practitioner, I approach pain from a different perspective than traditional medicine/physiotherapy. I work predominantly with energy…and from a distance. And I was curious what the author’s take would be. Unlike me, she’s been a “hands on” therapist. So, I was especially curious how she would approach this topic….how she would help people she would not even meet to get out of pain. I was not disappointed! Her book is not so much a book but a journey of self discovery through movement and awareness. Through Dr. Pat’s thoughtful step by step direction, you will strengthen your connection to the core of who you truly are… and come home to your self…leaving the pain behind.
