  • Charming and Sweet
Callie takes care of her nephew, Martin, after her sister passed away. They’ve been living a fairly good life until Martin witnesses a murder. Now that Martin is an important witness and is needed to testify when the trial comes they need to go into the witness protection program. There’s only one place in the world where Callie would feel safe and that’s whereever Finn is. Callie and Finn were partners in the military and trust each other without question. Callie always had a crush on Finn and now that they’re all staying at his ranch will there be a possibility to rekindle that flame? Finn’s heart was broken when he was betrayed by someone he trusted and loved. When he resigned from the military he looked for a place to settle down. He found the ranch of his dreams in Burnt Boot. He didn’t even unpack the boxes with his belongings when a van drives up to the house. When Callie steps out he can’t believe his eyes. Finn was a sniper in the army and Callie was his spotter. They’ve been on many missions together and he searched for her for a long time. When she tells him she and her nephew need protection there’s no doubt in his mind to let them stay on the ranch. Will this be the Christmas he always dreamed of? Callie is such a sweetheart with a no-nonsense attitude. She’s feisty when she needs to be and can hold her own in any task against any man. I love it that she has such a big heart. She deals with nasty situations in her own crazy way and her actions made me laugh out loud many times. She takes home any stray she finds and the ranch fills up real quick with people, animals and especially with love. Finn is a cowboy where any woman dreams of. He’s honorable, kind and has a good sense of humor. I loved how he handles any situation with a gentle heart. Finn works hard at the ranch and does any chore withou complaining. His big ranch sounds amazing and I could imagine their day to day life with ease. Cowboy Boots for Christmas is a sweet story about family, Christmas magic, a burning family fued and rekindling love. The people in Burnt Boot are very welcoming and I loved how Finn, Callie and the kids fit in without any problems. They look out for each other and that warmed my heart. Finn and Callie started out as friends and I loved to read about how they grow into something more so naturally. Carolyn Brown's writing style has a lovely easy flow that immediately pulled me into the story. Cowboy Boots for Christmas is a heartwarming story that’s perfect fort his time of year. ... show more

  • Humorous contemporary romance but the witness protection storyline went nowhere
Cowboy Boots for Christmas is the first book in Carolyn Brown's Burnt Boot Texas Series and the first book by Carolyn Brown that I have read. This book centers around Finn and Callie. They were partners (sniper and spotter) in the army and best friends who were attracted to each other but due to the rules never did anything about it. Then Finn met a woman and fell in love with her and Callie got out of the army to take care of her nephew when her sister died. Two years later Finn is out of the Army as well and settling into life as a new owner of a ranch. Callie and Martin are supposed to go into witness protection after Martin witnessed a murder but instead Callie heads to Finn's ranch for protection. Both Finn and Callie are strong, likeable characters. I liked the slow build of the romance from friendship to more. I liked how well they knew each other and that they didn't have a big conflict but slowly grew to more. The secondary characters were fun and entertaining and there was a lot of humor in the book especially the parrot! I liked Martin and the other stray animals they took in and I even liked the other three kids although I seriously doubt they would be that well adjusted that quickly after everything they had been through. It's a fun, entertaining Christmas story with all the tree lighting, Christmas tree trimming, Holiday Parties and more. However, not everything is light and fluffy. There is a feud going on between the two main families in town that was funny but at times ridiculous and over the top. The woman acted like children even getting into hair pulling, slapping fights. From reading the blurb of the book I thought there would be some suspense but the Witness Protection story really went no where and wasn't a part of the story except as a reason to bring Callie back into Finn's life. I was a bit disappointed in that aspect of the story. Still overall, for an entertaining Christmas Contemporary Romance read this is a good one. ... show more

  • awesome, inspiring story.
Callie and Finn served as a spotter and sniper in a war zone. Although they were partners, they weren’t lovers. But, they know each other as best friends. When Callie needed a refuge for her and her nephew, she turned to Finn for help. Finn just bought a ranch/farm and there’s plenty of room. But, things really pick up in just a few weeks and their lives change dramatically. A fun, inspiring, heartwarming story. Make this one a must read. ... show more

  • A Guaranteed Sweet & Fun Read!
This book has it all, friends to lovers, a lovable "Granny," adorable children and quirky animals - watch what you say in front of parrot Joe if you don't want to hear your words repeated at an inconvenient time. There's even a feud bigger than the Hatfields and McCoys. You don't want to be anywhere around the Brennans and Gallaghers when their feud heats up. You might get caught in the middle of a stampede or other critters on the loose. Carolyn Brown is brilliant when it comes to character development and dialogue. In this case hero, Finn O'Donnell and heroine, Callie Brewster are a former sniper-spotter team, both suffering from PTSD, who are reunited when Callie seeks out Finn to help protect her nephew, Martin. But even with the issues they both face there's no denying their attraction to each other. Or their tendency to take in strays of all shapes and sizes, human and animal alike. Which makes for some interesting and fun secondary characters in this story. As for great dialogue it doesn't get better than this: "Sometimes I could just kick him in the butt," Callie said. "Ass, "darlin' Women who drink Jack at ten in the morning don't kick butt, they kick ass" Each and every Carolyn Brown story brings smiles and delightful memories and you are guaranteed a sweet, fun escape when you sit down to read her books. Cowboy Boots for Christmas is no exception and I highly recommend it. ... show more
