  • Great for darkening any room.
Size: 36 in x 72 in Pattern Name: Shade
These are a great product and a great price. I bought them for my kid's rooms because their windows are flooded with light both in the early morning and in the early evening. They are young, so going to bed at 7:30p was difficult because there was so much light in the room. I didn't want to put blinds with cords in the room not only the risk of them choking, but they can use it to pull down the blinds. I used blankets to cover the window, but there was still lots of light leaking in making the room pretty bright. Plus the blankets covering the windows looked a little odd. First, I put up one shade in my older child's room and there was an instant difference. I wouldn't have thought it would have been so dramatic with just a black paper pleated shade. Next I put one in my younger child's room, which gets even more light, and you can see the difference in the photo. The first photo has the blanks over the window and you can see just how much light is coming in. There is still light after I put up the shade, but it's much less and there are no blankets up! There would probably be even less light if I spent a little more time in cutting it better. Cutting it is easy. I would recommend using a ruler and a blade to cut all the layers at once or in as few strokes as possible. I used a pair of scissors and just kinda held it up and cut it. It worked fine, but it's not super straight and doesn't fit the window perfectly. I might take them down and use new once since this comes with 6 shades. I haven't used the clips yet, but they seem straight forward. I don't know that I want to use them in the kid's room because they might pull them off and either put them in their mouth or lose them. If I have a need for more shade I will not hesitate to buy these again. Update: I've had these for about 2 weeks now. They still work great, but the double sided tape doesn't hold up very well. I've found it has fallen down every 2-3 days. The clips seem to make it fall down more, my guess is the extra weight. I'm going to try using velcro so I can take them down completely if I need to. One note I didn't make before was the the shade didn't go completely down to the bottom of the window without pulling on it. After being up for a few days it does stretch out to the bottom of the window. The only other comment is that you need two hands to put this up and put the clips on it. It's not a bad thing, but you can't do it with a baby in one hand. Overall still a great product. ... show more

  • Blocks out the sun
Size: 36 in x 72 in Pattern Name: Shade
Simply cut down using scissors to fit your windows and stick into the window frame. The length fit perfectly into our windows so I used strong stickers to adhere the clips to the bottom of window sills then put a strip of the sticker on the inside of the last fold for the clip to have something to grab onto. Works great. I do wish it came with more clips but bullnose clips work perfectly if you need extra ones. Blocks out the sun nicely. Easy to use, inexpensive and perfect if you don't want to spend the $$$ to get permanent shades. ... show more

  • Definitely Opaque to Light. Some Adhesive Issues.
Size: 36 in x 72 in Pattern Name: Shade
After successfully cutting two shades to length, I was actually very pleased with the installation. However, both window shades fell down by themselves within a couple of hours after putting them up. To make matters worse, the shades fell in such a way that the adhesive layer stuck to another part of the shade about one-third of the way down and basically ruined itself. Now I know why this product is sold in a six-pack. I found that I have to use thumbtacks to hold them up. Cutting was relatively easy. I used a sharp kitchen butcher knife and found a continuous sawing action to work best. Do not use a serrated bladed knife. You need to put a weight on the widest part of the shades while cutting. Otherwise, when you are almost finished cutting, it will unfold itself making it difficult to cut the remaining layers. As one other reviewed stated, the full length of these shades is about 72 inches. That means for a standard 3 foot by 6 foot window, you will not have a pleated appearance anymore. Yes, you can see where the folds are, but it really looks stretched out. And that brings us to the next point. I had to add my own double sided tape to the end to hold it against the window sill. It would have been nice if they had put peel and stick adhesive on both ends. But the ever so slight stretching to full length pulls on the upper adhesive thus pulling it loose after a couple of hours. It stretches out on its own, especially at the top where gravity is greatest due to the accumulated weight of the paper. After I finished my installation of these shades, I was ready to give it a solid 5 star rating. But after they fell and the resulting mess with it sticking to itself, I lost my enthusiasm. But now I know I must use thumbtacks to hold it up. I will still use the shades with thumbtacks. But I really do think they should have added enough length to maintain some pleated appearance in a standard 3X6 foot window. This is a very common sized window. Of course, for this price there is no pull cord to adjust the length if you want to let in some sunlight or look outside. Update: I think I made a mistake when I installed the adhesive side to the underside of the window opening because this is a painted drywall surface. (But it is a smooth flat surface.) So I changed where I put the adhesive side to the frame of the window itself. This is a fairly thin surface, but the adhesive sticks a lot better to the metal frame than the painted drywall. It has stayed put for neary two weeks now.) It is definitely opaque to sunlight. This is what I wanted for my home theater room. Prior to this, there was way just too much reflection in my new 65 inch Panasonic HDTV to watch a movie in the daytime. So these shades do work quite well. Make sure you cut it snugly to the right width to keep out unwanted sunlight around the edges. Measure the width at the top and bottom and the middle to find the narrowest dimension to customize the shade width. ... show more
